My boyfriend's absolute favorite band is Radiohead, and he constantly talks to me about their music. He and I have many similar favorites when it comes to music, so the fact that he labeled Radiohead as his absolute favorite piqued my interest. Before I met my boyfriend, the only Radiohead songs I had heard were "Creep" and "High and Dry", both of which I liked, but not enough to find out more about the band.
After I met my boyfriend, he exposed me to more of their music, and I must say I quite like some of their other songs as well, my favorite being "My Iron Lung". Still, Radiohead is nowhere close to being in my "Hall of Favorites", so I wondered what it was about the band's music that my boyfriend liked so much.
In all our conversations about Radiohead, the word my boyfriend uses the most often is "space". He describes the music as being very out there, something different and unique, and he can listen to it for hours and hours and imagine himself being in a different place, a different world altogether.
It's not surprising then, since Thom Yorke - who is Radiohead's lead singer and songwriter and also known as Dr. Tchock - came up with most of the "space-y" songs that my boyfriend likes so much, that Radiohead's artwork would be described as "space-y" as well. Dr. Tchock and Stanley Donwood have been collaborating on Radiohead's artwork since 1995, and my boyfriend tells me he likes their artwork for precisely the same reason as he likes Radiohead's music.
Dead Children Playing is a collection of Radiohead's artwork that Stanley Donwood and Dr. Tchock have produced in the last decade. It features artwork from Radiohead's albums, OK Computer, Kid A, Hail to the Thief, Amnesiac, and also Thom Yorke's album, Eraser. It also contains some never-before-seen artwork that Radiohead fans will love.
