Book Review: Craft Challenge: Dozens of Ways to Repurpose Scarves by Nathalie Mornu

Craft Challenge: Dozens of Ways to Repurpose Scarves is a fantastic how-to guide that will inspire you to create dozens of stylish projects using a variety of different types of scarves.

The author introduces you to the basics of scarves including the wide range of fabric types. She encourages readers to transform something old and transform it into something modern and hip.

Scarf styles included in this book are vintage, Vera Neumann, winter woolens and flowing silk scarves.

She also explains the various sewing tools needed for the projects in this book including a sewing machine, thread, cutting tools, needles, pins, fabric markers and more.

There is also a very handy section on the various hand sewing stitches, embroidery stitches, and machine stitches used in these project and information on making buttonholes. There is also a guide to simple sewing techniques including clipping corners and curves, making a hem, making a casing, making bias tape, making ruffles, binding an edge, mitering a corner and French seams.

The information in the beginning of this book should easily be enough for someone with basic sewing skills to tackle many of these projects.

The projects themselves are broken down into three chapters: wear, flaunt and decorate. As you'd expect, wear is all about clothes and includes some cute fashions for both adults and children. There are simple projects like the embellished t-shirt and more complicated projects like the boho chic skirt made from layered exotic scarves and the ruffled camisole.

Each project contains pictures of the finished item, written description, list of needed supplies and when necessary templates. There are ten different projects in the wear section.

The Flaunt section contains a variety of accessories like feather earrings, belts, a clutch, embellished scarves, a cute handbag, a stuffed bunny, hair accessories, a sling, knotted scarf and more. Again, there is a wide variety of projects for different skill levels. The earrings are fairly basic and should be simple enough to create with limited skills. The felt cap is among the more difficult of the projects. There are 11 flaunt projects in this chapter.
