Book Review: Commercial Photoshop Retouching: In the Studio

Written for the professional Photoshop retoucher in a production environment, the goal of this book is to help photographers and artists who are under a tight deadline turn out superior work using advanced techniques developed by Glenn Honiball. This is not a book for someone new to Photoshop CS2, but instead a very detailed manual for those who already have some proficiency in using its advanced features. Honiball, a long time veteran of the graphical environment, has compiled a no-nonsense approach that has been developed over the past 20 years, saving the production artist or photographer many hours of trial and error.

This book goes into great detail on how to use shadowing, color management, lighting, and effects to produce some truly awesome and realistic work on both the Windows and Mac platforms. In addition to various techniques used to speed up and streamline the work load in order to let one's creativity prevail, this book also discusses setting up your equipment in a manner to better manage your work and get more accurate results when it comes time to print. So for those of you in the digital darkroom who are looking for a way to improve your bitmap manipulation skills and take them to the next level in creating images that don’t look “touched” then this is a must have book for you!
