Book Review: Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

I don't know about you but whenever I finish reading a book series, I always wonder about what lies next for the characters in the book. This curiosity allows authors to resurrect new life into an otherwise completed series. The Bloodlines series helps satisfy that curiosity by following Sydney, the alchemist we meet in the Vampire Academy series, in her own whirlwind of adventure.

Sydney is startled awake at the beginning of the book only to discover that the Alchemist have requested her younger sister, Zoe, in a secret Moroi mission and Sydney will do anything to prevent Zoe from being dragged into the alchemist lifestyle. To Sydney's surprise, she is able to convince those in charge that she would be a much better choice over her younger sister and is immediately sent to sunny California.

Sydney joins characters we love from Vampire Academy: Adrian, Eddie, and Jill, the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir, at Amberwood Prep, a human boarding school. We are introduced to a few new characters: Keith, the Alchemist for the area and the only known Moroi living in the area, Clarence and his son Lee.

Jill, Sydney, and Eddie are enrolled in school as siblings in order to cover up any questions as to why the three students spend so much time together. Sydney and Eddie quickly adapt to the new school while Jill has a harder time with the new surroundings.

Between Jill's problems in P.E. and Sydney's interest in the 'magical' tattoos that certain students bare, Bloodlines is a book you don't want to miss. Of course, you'll probably want to read the Vampire Academy series prior to the Bloodlines series so you'd better get reading. The second book in the series comes out in June so while you're ordering Bloodlines you might as well pre-order the second book, The Golden Lily.
