Book Review: A Piece of Cake: Recipes for Female Sexual Pleasure

Cake is an organization that aims to set the record straight about how women live, think, fantasize and act. To create this book of sexually pleasurable recipes, they asked women from around the world to share their stories and fantasies at their website. And boy did they get some responses!

Throughout the book there are quotes from real women telling stories of their fantasies, their first sexual experiences, their first time masturbating, and so much more. These stories provide a glimpse into why a woman’s best friend really is her clitoris. There are also “Pleasure Tips” of things to try on your own or with a partner with the goal of discovering more about your body, your desires, and simply what feels good.

A Piece of Cake takes us on a journey with the hopes that every woman will feel she has options when it comes to her sexual identity. Women are taught from an early age that their place is to be sexually passive with dreams of the ‘ideal’ monogamous relationship. While some of us have discovered our sexual personality, Cake is there to assure women that we’ve been sexual all along and there is nothing wrong with that.

For most of us, masturbation is our first real encounter with our sexuality. And it is a natural step to take when we first experience arousal. Cake feels it is “cause for celebration when women learn to masturbate early, and masturbate often.” But masturbation is often forced to be hidden and many people develop feelings of guilt and shame surrounding it. Masturbation is a healthy step to sexual discovery, so Cake gives tips for self pleasure, opening up to a partner, and even how parents can deal with children discovering their own sexuality.

Of importance to Cake is the notion that women should love themselves—love their butts and breasts, lips and vulvas. When we love our bodies, orgasms will be more plentiful. Loving your body also means you are more freely able to express sexual desires and needs and to experience all the pleasure that sex has to offer.

I discovered my sexual personality when I was 16 thanks to an older man, and ever since I have been very sexual. It has always been my philosophy that sex is the most fun two people can have together. And just a tip that helps me to lose myself in the pleasure - don't worry what your body looks like, once you've got him in bed he doesn't care anymore.

I am going to buy this book today!
