Book Review: 1001 Things You Didn't Know You Wanted To Know by Anna Mantzaris

Part of: Reviews in Brief

1001 Things You Didn't Know You Wanted To Know by Anna Mantzaris is an interesting book that contains a plethora of little known facts. Any reader's  knowledge and perspective on the world can only be enhanced by reading this book.

Take some samples: Mantzaris cites the fact that polar bears walk more than 100,000 miles over a lifetime. Another little known fact is that Henry the Sixth was less than a year old when he became king of England in the year 1422.

Generally speaking, Albert Einstein is most known for his theories in theoretical physics and higher mathematics like ordinary differential equations. But did you know that Einstein was an accomplished violinist? Also, that the author Jack London was the first novelist to earn $1 million for his writing.

Mantzaris cites the leastly densely populated countries like Mongolia, Australia and Iceland. These places could be good retirement spots because a less densely populated area may mean less environmental pollution.

Did you know which of the oceans is the largest? The answer is the Pacific Ocean. Also, Asia is the largest continent according to the author. Did you know which fruit has many seeds? The answer is the strawberry with more than 200 seeds.

Well written and illustrated throughout, 1001 Things You Didn't Know contains knowledge that can help provide interesting conversation points and a broader perspective for a wide audience. It is likely to be of particular interest to students, journalists, politicians and academicians.
