While cruising the internet and pre-ordering books that I want, I also checked on a couple B-list DVD movies that I'd been interested in viewing and owning. I was tired and accidentally clicked the wrong button, pulling up a complete listing for actress Gina Gershon (okay, I admit to a certain fascination with long legs, dark eyes, and pouty lips — and she's a good actress besides).
I noticed that there was a non-biographical book listed. The title caught my eye immediately. Camp Creepy Time sounds cool, and since I've been reading the Charlie Bone and Alex Rider books to my nine-year-old, I thought this might be something we'd be interested in.
A quick click sent me to the webpage and I quickly read up on the book. The hero, Einstein P. Fleet gets shipped off to summer camp and quickly discovers that aliens are abducting the kids for intergalactic zoos. When Einstien tells people why his friends are missing, no one believes him. So it's up to Einstein to save the day. This sounds like the kind of book I want to share with my son. So I ordered it. When it comes in, after we've read it, I'll post a review.
The interesting thing is how big the children's book (ages 9-12) is at the moment. Harry Potter and other popular series have drawn a lot of attention to the books, but I truly believe that adults are reading the books too, and I think they're reading more than the Harry Potter books. Children's books, for the most part, are of a reasonable length. You can read one in two or three days without straining yourself, and there's the added value of having a book you can discuss with your child, or just read to them.
Now Gina Gershon's book is out there looking for a home. Stay tuned.
