Beyond Bounds: Jonathan Barnes, Jayne Ann Krentz, Lora Leigh, Lynsay Sands, Christopher Paolini

Part of: Beyond Bounds: The Paranormal and Fantasy with Katie

There are some interesting titles that have been released recently as well as some that are coming up that have caught my eye.

One in particular is The Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes. So what exactly is a somnambulist? I didn’t know so I had to look it up. It’s another term for sleepwalking, performing activities associated with wakefulness while asleep or in a sleeplike state. I have to admit that the title is intriguing. And the story? Oh, I think it will be worth reading.

The Guardian says “The Victorian era lends itself to fantastical literature, and in recent years there has been a surge of novels set in the 19th century. The Somnambulist is one of the best.” So with a recommendation like that how can you go wrong? Read a review over at Strange Horizons Reviews.

Speaking of original ideas there is a new release from Viz Media. If you are a fan of Adult Swim then you are probably familiar with the anime Death Note. Based off the wildly popular manga they have just released an encyclopedic guide to the series. Death Note: How to Read 13 includes character bios, storyline summaries and interviews with the creators. It’s a must for the fans.

In the paranormal arena there are three that have come to my attention thanks to the monthly newsletters that Borders sends out. Jayne Ann Krentz (also known as Amanda Quick) has a new one out entitled Sizzle and Burn, you can read a letter from the author here. Dawn’s Awakening is the fourth book in Lora Leigh’s Breed series and you can read a letter from the author here or watch the trailer for the book here. And last but not least (and my favorite) Lynsay Sands! That’s right, Vampires Are Forever hits shelves and is her latest in the Argeneaus vampire family. I love this series because book after book Sands delivers a fantastic read. Read the letter from Lynsay Sands.

And last but not least, and definitely worth a mention is the third book in Christopher Paolini’s young adult series. The third book, Brisingr, has a release date of September 2008. While that does seem like a long time away for some fans the time, however, will fly by in no time. Until then check out the Amazon page - they have a special message from the author to his fans.

I have The Somnambulist on my wishlist. It sounds so unique and good - I can't wait to get my hands on it. :)

Yeah, I'm looking forward to reading that one. I should get it in the mail sometime this week and I plan to drop whatever I'm reading so I can start it.
