Kabani packs her knowledge into 250 pages worth of interesting facts about websites, blogging, SEO, social media, online advertising and more. Each chapter could have been a whole book and that’s probably the only complaint I have.
Otherwise, The Zen of Social Media Marketing really has a great deal of information. I would recommend having a computer with you while you read so that you can look up various websites as you read along.
Once you get to Chapter Three where she discusses SEO and keywords, she shares some interesting tips like:
- How to find keywords using Google;
- Ensuring that your site is web friendly by using Google Webmaster Central;
- Checking out your website speed;
- Making sure that each page on your website use three to five keywords in the title;
- Using link building to climb higher on search engines.
After that, she focuses on social media marketing and discusses why your business should be online. Following that, she focuses on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ and gives compelling reasons why businesses need to be on those sites.
Many people say to me — and, as I discovered, to Kabani as well, “I don’t see a reason why I need to be on those sites; my customers aren’t there.” But as Kabani discusses, by not being on these sites, it’s a missed opportunity. She says that if you think they aren’t there, you’re wrong.
Throughout The Zen of Social Media Marketing, Kabani offers good advice on various sites that can strengthen your social media marketing efforts. Here are some of the valuable tips she offers:
- Make sure to backup your Facebook page by using socialsafe.com for photos and thoughts that you want to save;
- Share value on Twitter and use tools for Twitter search like WeFollow.com, Twitterlocal.net and Listorious.com (for Twitter lists);
- On Facebook advertising make sure that you have an emotional connection and offer a call to action;
- Video sharing tools including Viddler, Veoh, and Metacafe;
- Various ways to measure your results.
Throughout the book, Kabani offers an “Aha! Zen Moment” with handy chapter takeaways. She also lined the book with thought-leaders discussing their feelings about various topics that she outlined in her chapters.
She finishes the book with a chapter on Social Media case studies and offers the reader an opportunity to listen in on an interview she conducted with the company owners. Interesting that when asked, which social networking tool do you like best, the majority said, “Twitter.”
