The Sum of Our Parts is a delightful story about a boy's loose tooth that will bring you back to your childhood.

Book Review: The Sum of Our Parts: My Tooth is Loose by Bill Kirk

Even though I am adult I still love reading quality children’s books. In fact, it is not unusual to find me hanging out in the children’s section in my local library. I especially love books that can teach children about everyday life.

This is the main reason I never tire of reading books written by the talented Bill Kirk. Bill’s newest book, My Tooth is Loose is a book that every mom, dad, and grandparent will enjoy reading together with a young child. The book will bring you back to your childhood days and help you recall  details about when your tooth was loose. It is a simple story with an important message about being a child.

There are several reasons why I love this well written book.

  • The book is written in rhymes: As a classroom teacher I think end rhymes can be a very valuable tool to teach children new words. Learning certain target words will help a child become a better reader.
  • The detailed resource section: The book has seven pages of factoids and activities. It has a Did you Know section that provides valuable facts about human and animal teeth. The matching activity will keep any child totally engaged. Bill Kirk’s goal is to challenge the imagination of his readers, young and old, by exploring everyday life, simply and profoundly, and having fun in the process.
  • The illustrations: Eugene E. Ruble elevates the story to make the reader feel and taste what is going on with the characters.

In addition to stories written in rhyme, Bill writes fiction and satire. Look for There’s A Spider In My Sink!, There’s A Beetle In My Bed!, My Grandma’sKitchen Rules, A Midsummer’s Dance, and more of The Sum of Our Parts series at Guardian Angel Publishing.
