Occasionally, when we’re not overly concerned with our own importance, someone plaintively asks “Where will we find tomorrow’s leaders?” While some may argue that leaders are born, not made, there is definitely an advantage to training future leaders to lead well. How do we recognize future leaders? Easy — look at all young people as potential leaders.

Leaders are needed in every field from government to religion—every organization, corporation, and group. Who will prepare them for their responsibilities?

Tekemia Dorsey holds a Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership (University of Phoenix), and a Master’s in Education and a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice (University of Maryland). She explains that “Transformational leaders are leaders that work in the best interests of others, such as Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.”  It is with this vision that she wrote The Spiritual ABCs of Transformational Leadership Pre-K through 5th Grad; and The Spiritual Guide to Transformational Leadership (6th through 12th grades).

Following the alphabet in each book, Dr. Dorsey has crafted instructional manuals, based on Biblical teachings, for adults interested in fostering leadership skills and qualities in children and teenagers. Each letter of the alphabet introduces a memory verse, a biblical character, Books of the Bible where appropriate, and a short lesson on leaders and leadership. Both books are fully illustrated.

Also provided in both books are “Dorsey’s Spiritual Leadership Training and Education Models” for both private and Christian schools, and the public school system. These chart the elements necessary for Transformational Leadership education, and the roles of essential contributors — parents and guardians, community, and school.

The Spiritual ABCs of Transformational Leadership Pre-K through 5th Grade at 63 pages and The Spiritual Guide to Transformational Leadership (6th through 12th grades) at 41 pages are — as their titles suggest — guides, not in-depth explorations of leadership or leadership education. They provide the groundwork for lessons and discussions upon which users are expected to elaborate. Dorsey provides support through her website.

Using positive role models and inspirational passages, The Spiritual ABCs of Transformational Leadership Pre-K through 5th Grade; and The Spiritual Guide to Transformational Leadership (6th through 12th grades) offer parents and teachers an opportunity to cultivate character development in their young charges. While church groups and private schools may embrace the curriculum represented in these two books, their Biblical foundations and focus make them inappropriate for public schools in the United States.
