The Omni Diet: Lose Weight, Reverse Disease, Fight Inflammation and Change Your Life Forever by Tana Amen is an important book on the essential elements of protein and vegetable combinations consistent with maintaining weight loss and an ideal weight. The plant/protein ratio is 70% vegetable to 30% protein content in an ideal diet. Extra protein is recommended to keep blood sugar low while burning excess fat.

Amen suggests exercising often, utilizing free weights at least twice weekly, drinking extra water, consuming a fresh green drink twice weekly and utilizing a sauna twice weekly to aid in discharging toxins associated with ill health and weight gain. The book suggests drinking sparkling water to quench the thirst in place of sugary drinks.

The author suggests that dieters consume green tea and stevia instead of sugary soda. Foods; such as, broccoli, folic acid, B-complex, B12, Resveratrol, Magnesium, ginseng and alpha lipoic acid are known to help repair the DNA.

The book suggests that sugar provides a breeding ground for cancer. Coconut milk and cacao are cited as important tonics to whet the appetite and control excess blood sugar. Various herbs are provided to add to food in order to provide anti-oxidant support. Examples are mint, ginger, cinnamon and garlic.

Amen recommends consuming probiotics daily in order to place good bacteria into the gastrointestinal tract. The good bacteria helps to keep the gut disease free over time as does the consumption of high fiber. The back of the book has over 100 pages of mouth watering recipes that are devoid of too much sugar and damaging cholesterol.

The Omni Diet is an important health resource for dieting and lifelong weight maintenance and control. The book shows how to make important substitutions like sparkling water and green tea for sugary sodas which add unhealthful levels of sugar grams to the diet while contributing little to the nutritive value of the food eaten. The presentation is brief and easy to understand.
