The Dating Advice Girl (TDAG) (Erin Tillman) has written a wonderful book for those who are ready to begin dating (again). This little book renewed my hope in the dating process.

I admit that I recently said how difficult the dating process can be and that I am not really interested in jumping back in again anytime soon. Much could be said about that but I think that is why this little nugget of a book found me! I am reminded that dating is just that, “dating,” and it is supposed to be “FUN” according to TDAG in The Dating Guidebook: Tips For Living a Happy and Healthy Single Life Without Losing Yourself in the Dating Process.

My first thought about the author was “she is a therapist, she has to be”….she started out talking about very important elements of dating and they were right on, (especially if you intend on growing it into a committed relationship). Element number one TDAG starts out with early in the book, dating your “emotional equal.” How true, you can find out how mature your date is once you have a problem, and then the emotional maturity level will be glaring at you. That has been my experience as well!

Listening skills is another element TDAG says is a must. The level of “listening” demonstrated by your date tells you how important you are to them. Is it all about them or is your date really interested in you? I have learned that most people really want to be heard, and it makes them feel appreciated. So don’t forget to listen to your date and show your manners as well!

The Dating Advice Girl makes really great points throughout the book for both the guys and the gals. She speaks to both sides about showing respect to others and to your-self.  The only part of the book I did not like was “Rejection Excuse #1.” Ultimately I think honesty is the best policy because telling someone that you will never have time because your schedule is going to be full seems like a hurtful way to tell them no. Exercise your “confidence” instead!

Once you leave a relationship it takes a little time to recover. Nobody wants to be thrown into the “baggage” mix. It is so easy to forget that dating is to have fun and see if you like each other! TDAG says to remember that dating is not the time to be picking out your long-term partner! I agree that it could be an adventure when it is kept simple and use the tips in the book The Dating Guidebook: Tips For Living a Happy and Healthy Single Life Without Losing Yourself in the Dating Process by The Dating Advice Girl aka Erin Tillman! I sure will!

I run one of the local nerd dating groups launched in Chicago as Nerds at Heart and now in several cities including my own hometown of Indy. Totally appreciate anyone/everyones anxiety but fun is a good focus. I like that simple but hard to master advice.
