First, before we get started let me say that I loved the Superman Returns movie. I found it exciting and it had an air of mystery. Brandon Routh did a great job in a tough role and overall I had a great time every time I saw it.
Now, that aside, I would like to say that this book gives us the movie that should have been filmed. It answers a lot of questions that were left unexplained in the movie and even shows how some of the 'errors' would not have been errors if they had followed the script.
As you probably know, Superman has returned to Earth after being gone for several years. Upon his return he discovers that life has moved on, and many of the 'staples' of his past life are gone. The relationship between Martha and Ben is explained further and the relationship between Lois and Clark is looked at deeper still.
Forcing him to look at the damage his secret identity has caused while making him feel outside of society, Superman Returns was — supposed — to be a look at the journey that takes him from Super Alien to Super Man. Instead, we got a look at what can happen when perhaps corners are cut along with the writers' version.
This is the fully done, original story to the movie, and includes storyboards and input from the screenwriters and director. Superman Returns: The Complete Shooting Script is the perfect guide for the Superman fan as well as the nay-sayers who attacked almost everything about the film.
