Never Stay Past Midnight is a romance novel by Mira Lyn Kelly, published in the UK by Mills & Boon. It tells the story of Elise and Levi, a couple who had a one-night stand that has changed things forever.
Elise has had bad relationships in the past, and is no rush to get into one again. She has already got too much going on in her life, and the last thing she needs is a man taking up her time too. So she’s perfectly happy to keep the one-nighter with Levi to just that.
It was good, it scratched an itch, but now she wants to get on with her life. But for some reason, she can’t get Levi out of her head.
Levi feels the same. He has a somewhat troubled past, and he, too, has a lifestyle which doesn’t allow much room for a relationship. His job means he travels around a lot, arriving in a city and overseeing a project until it’s done, then leaving again. It’s always suited him fine. Until Elise. Without ever intending to, she turned his world upside down and made him begin to question things.
The two are thrown together under unusual circumstances and realise they get on well as friends, too. They resolve to stay that way, but the tension between them continues to bubble away, until they eventually give into temptation. It’s not a problem, though, it’s just a fling – Levi’s leaving town soon, so they’ll just have fun until he does. If only things were that simple.
Overall, this was a great fun read. It was fairly light-hearted, although there were some serious issues in there, which were dealt with very well. It was a fun romance, easy to read, with likeable characters who you’ll find yourself rooting for. I’d definitely check out more books by this author, and can recommend this to anyone who likes a bit of heat with their romance.
