Obsession — Lust for power — Alien possession — Mortal danger — Seduction and betrayal — Narcissistic self-deception — Suicidal inertia. Is this the stuff of movie melodramas or real life? In Managers, Martians & Monsters by Jonathan M. Freiman, PhD, it is both! Through the use of classic thrillers combined with actual cases from government and business, you will learn: how to harness the power of expectation, how to work with Narcissists, how to maintain high ethical standards, how to control and manage consultants and many more helpful solutions to today’s business dilemmas.
As the author takes the reader on this memorable journey, he passes on his many years of experience and education. Dr. Freiman has spent his career in large manufacturing corporations in both production and human resources. He shares hard-learned lessons from the shop floor and boardroom in a unique format presenting parallels between Hollywood classics and current events. The Hollywood classics are some of the most unique movies that ever graced the silver screen. When Dr. Freiman explains the finer points of dealing with a Narcissist, he likens it to the movie Forbidden Planet. With the use of such colorful characters as “Dr. Morbius” and “Robby” the robot from this movie, Dr. Freiman makes his point explicitly.
Dr. Freiman compares each chapter in the book to a particular Hollywood movie including The Raven, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and many others. At the end of each chapter, Dr. Freiman concludes it with a list of references. I found this to be very helpful to do more in-depth research on any particular portion of the book.
Managers, Martians & Monsters is an interesting and well-written self-help book that anyone can use to better themselves in the business world. It gives the reader some very important insights into the workings of big business. I gave it a high B on my scale and recommend it to any young professional that is working his or her way up the corporate ladder.Powered by Sidelines
