Cute cats have come to dominate our world thanks to the Internet, and none is quite adorable as Lil BUB. Every cat has its schtick, from Grumpy Cat’s perceived grumpiness to the quirks of Maru, and Lil Bub is all about how amazing the world is. In her Lil BUB’s Lil Book, the precious kitty writes (with a little help from her “dude” Mike Bridavsky) about her adventures as “the Most Amazing Cat on the Planet.”

lil_bub_bookLil BUB’s story is in fact amazing. As explained in Bridavasky’s foreword, BUB was discovered as the runt of a litter of feral kittens. She is riddled with genetic anomalies such as polydactylism, “permakitten” (dwarfism among cats), and a toothless malformed mouth with a jaw so short her tongue constantly, cutely, hangs out. When BUB was rescued at about eight months old, she weighed only six ounces, the vet expected her to live a few months at most. Under Mike’s care, Bub did live, and now she stands healthy with thousands of fans from around the world.

Lil BUB’s Lil Book is all about seeing the magic and wonder in the world; even things that are negative can be seen as adventures. From the dedication page (“This book is dedicated to YOU!”), each page is filled with colorful images of BUB and friends alongside humorous, sometimes inspirational messages. The second introduction is written in first person from the perspective of BUB. She describes her genetic anomalies as “one of nature’s happiest accidents.” She offers the book as an “exclusive glimpse into the remarkable and fascinating story of my life, told through stunning photos depicting my travels through space and adventures on Earth.”

The book begins with the description of BUB’s life as an alien from Bub Ub Bub a world full of BUBs. She crashed to Earth (shown as a series of pictures with her climbing through a cardboard mockup of a spaceship) and began a search for fishes, which brought her to meet her “dude.” The rest of the book follows as clever captions like “If I hold really still, I won’t move” attached to pictures of cats being adorable cats.

CUDDLE BARN LIL BUB PLUSHLil BUB’s fame continues to spread, filling the world with calendars, stickers, and a new plush from Cuddle Barn. The plush allows fans to bring Lil BUB home with all of her glory encapsulated in a soft toy made with Cuddle Barn’s level of quality. BUB’s self-descriped “wonder-filled green eyes that can send messages into space” are emulated by charming, almost cartoony, enormous eyes on the plush. Its fur is very soft and realistic, even to the point of people mistakenly thinking it was a cat at first glance.

Fortunately, all of this fame does not go to Lil BUB’s tiny head. Bridavsky has used the spontaneous internet icon as a platform for contributions to the ASPCA. A percentage of all BUB merchandise goes to support pets that are often difficult to adopt due to needs of special care due to age, illness, or, like BUB, suffering birth defects. This philanthropy from a kitty that so needed it herself is truly makes for an extraordinary life from an amazing cat. Good job, BUB.
