I’m reading more and more Mills and Boon/Harlequin titles just lately as I can whiz through them pretty quickly and I know that the writing is high quality and the storylines are interesting.
Last Groom Standing is no exception. It’s part of The Wedding Season quartet, which I didn’t realise until I started reading. But it makes no difference, anyway, it can easily be read as a standalone novel, though I’d be interested to check out the other books, too. Each of the four books deals with a different couple, and Last Groom Standing is the story of Marnie Price and Dylan Brookes.
The two of them are thrown together in less than ideal circumstances, and although they know each other, they couldn’t be classed as friends. Dylan is Marnie’s friend’s ex, and it’s all pretty complicated. But when a few drinks too many causes them to lower their inhibitions and end up in bed together, the complications grow even worse.
Things are not great for Marnie, having just lost her job and then being forced into a room with people she’s not on good terms with. So the temptation to start a hot fling with Dylan is immense. Just as long as a fling is all it is. He’s not boyfriend material, much less husband material, and she’s already the only single girl left in her group of friends. So Dylan can just provide a pleasant distraction to pass the time until someone else comes along. Someone better.
When Marnie gets another job, things look to be on the up. Except she’s now working — albeit indirectly — for Dylan, so their paths cross a lot more than they did previously, which makes their sleeping together a little more awkward. Throw in a bunch of concerned yet nosy friends and you’ve got a recipe for… well, you’ll just have to find out!
Last Groom Standing was a fun, sexy read. I really liked the main characters, and will definitely look out for the other books in the quartet so I can get the full picture. Kimberly Lang is a skilled writer who pulls you in and makes you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. Recommended for romance fans.Powered by Sidelines
