Haitian actress Garcelle Beauvais and co-author Sebastian A. Jones have done it again. They have written a must read book. I Am Living in 2 Homes handles with grace and wisdom a very important problem prevalent in today’s society.
It is never easy for children to understand why their parents have to live in separate homes. Oftentimes, the children are caught in the middle and they end up paying the price for the confusion that derives from their parents getting a divorce. As a classroom teacher, I have seen firsthand what happens to children whose parents are divorced. In most cases, it is not a pretty picture.
Beauvais and Jones address a serious issue in a compassionate way. All children living in two homes who read this well written book will fully understand that it is not their fault mommy and daddy live apart.
One thing that resonates well with me from reading this book- the authors focused on the positives. In life, we can let negative situations define who we become, or we can muster enough courage to seek out the positives.
I see I Am Living in 2 Homes as a must read for all parents who are divorced and want to find a way to help their children cope with their new living arrangements. More importantly, the book teaches children, regardless of where they live, that they are deeply loved by both parents.

When Jay and I go to Mommy’s house, she says: “Be at peace, my gentle loves, my favorite people under heaven above; it’s a grown up choice, through no fault of your own, your Dad and I are happier… living in 2 homes.”
Children are smart little people that adults often take for granted. I believe if we are honest and speak the truth in love to them, they will respond in a favorable way.
The illustrations by James C. Webster make it easy for the reader to connect with the story. Mr. Webster’s illustrations are by far some of the best I have seen.
