Cupcakes are all the rage right now. Intrigued by the trend I decided to pick up Hello, Cupcake!: Irresistibly Playful Creations Anyone Can Make and learn what I could about the nation's new obsession. Having been raised in a Polish tradition baking is second nature to me. I also love to create little dolls and animal figurines in my spare time.

This book showed me a way how I could combine my interests in a new way.

Right off, I would recommend the Kindle version of the book. The photography is gorgeous. I, like so many people who cook and do craft, tend to be a visual learner. Show me clear, beautiful photographs and illustrations and I can almost follow the idea without hardly having to refer to the text.

The text, however, is excellent too. Presented in large clear print the book describes so many different techniques to create different cute forms in your cakes. There are such lively sections such as April Fools themes, holiday themes and birthday ideas. I especially like the holiday themes. In Polish tradition much of the heavy baking takes place at the religious holidays that take place over the course of the year, such as the time now for Easter. I welcome new ideas.

There is a final section that explains the ins and outs of baking these visual masterpieces. For an old hand they seemed rudimentary but I welcome the underlying idea that one should play around with the ingredients to arrive at what you think is best

Hello, Cupcake! is in essence a design book that provides instruction in baking these confections for those who need the help. The real joy lies in the wonderfully rendered photographs. I look forward to trying these ideas myself in my kitchen. I'm sure I'll feel reluctant to eat these adorable cakes but in the end I suspect I will find a way to indulge.

Good book, i want to read more.

  • You’re very welcome Michelle. It was a lot of fun for me to read too. I think you hit the nail on the head. It never occurred to me but that must be a big part of why people love them so, an indulgence but in a small portion. I get it.

  • Thank you so much for bringing this book to my attention! I love to bake cupcakes (they let me “be bad” without going overboard), but I think this will let me make cupcakes that everyone in my family, including nieces and nephews, will go gaga over!
