Healthy Teeth, Healthy Gums, Happy Mouth by J.L.Boone provides strategies for cleaner, whiter, stronger teeth and a healthier gum. All of these strategies can be implemented in the comfort of your home.

Boone explains the different causes of cavities. For instance, pitt fissure results from chewing near the tooth surface. Smooth surface cavities result from decay in between teeth, while root cavities result from deeper decay which may require dental surgery.

The author defines peridontal disease around the gum, as well as gingivitis which is inflammation from plaque buildup. There are stress related reasons for mouth problems too. For instance, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ) and myofacial pain dysfunction (MPD) are stress related maladies. The signs are tender cheeks, tension and a pop noise when the mouth is opened.

Boone explains what daily preventive dental care entails. Teeth should be brushed circularly around the chewing surface and the tongue should be brushed lightly. Flossing should be done twice daily. The author recommends that sugar and starch be limited significantly. The dental visit should be twice yearly.

The book lists important herbs for oral hygiene. Examples are almond oil, peppermint oil and spearmint oil. Oils should be rubbed gently across the gums. Tea tree oil may be employed to fight bacteria, as well as green tea. Vitamin C is utilized to boost the immune system along with broccoli, green pepper, spinach and tomatoes.

Boone explains that detergent food should be consumed like apples, celery and popcorn. Apple cider should be gargled as a cleanser. In addition, the toothbrush should be soaked in hydrogen peroxide. Straws should be used to sip coffee, tea and soda in order to limit contact of the liquid with the teeth.

The author provides many other recommendations. For instance, Neem is used for bacterial and viral infections. Neemsticks are known to inhibit bacteria and fight plaque. Chives may be used for toothaches.

Healthy Teeth, Healthy Gums, Happy Mouth is an excellent book for optimizing the prevention of tooth decay by following some simple strategies. The author has covered virtually every major preventive step from tooth brushing to cleansers that inhibit bacterial and viral infections.
