When my children were little, I enjoyed making fleece sewing projects for them because fleece is an easier medium to work with than fabric for a beginner. Fleece is also soft, warm, easy to wash and comfortable which are all ideal for small children. There’s no need to sew hems like there is with fabric because fleece does not unravel at the end. What better sewing project could there be for a busy mom than fleece sewing projects?

Fleece Hat Friends: 25+ Easy-to-Sew Projects contains 25  projects that are perfect for the beginning crafter or anyone who loves fleece sewing projects. Fleece Hat Friends is all about adorable animal hats that your child will love to wear this fall. Because this is a beginning craft book, Fleece Hat Friends opens with a section on the basic tools and materials needed to create fleece sewing projects. You will also learn what should be in your basic sewing kit as well as a basic template for how to make a plain fleece hat. There are basic instructions on how to make a seam; earflaps, braids and tassels; how to make the lining, and making eyes, along with the basic hat template needed to create all of the fleece hat friends in the book. The basic hat template comes in extra small, small, medium, and large so you can create hats for different aged/sized children.

Each of the projects is featured on its own and includes several gorgeous, full color photographs. Also included are drawings of the hat, tools and materials needed, detailed instructions, and templates for individual felt pieces needed to add to the basic hat template in the beginning of the book. Everything is very well explained and understandable by even a beginner. The variety of hats included really impressed me. There are hats that are suitable for younger children like monkeys and ladybugs. There are also hats included that would work great for preteens like a lion, bear, and giraffe. Some of the hats include patterns for things like tails, mittens, or scarves. Many of them would make adorable accents to create your own Halloween costume.

Whether you’re looking for a start to a Halloween costume or a warm fleece hat for winter, Fleece Hat Friends is definitely the place you need to start.
