It can be difficult for people to live with chronic illnesses. And this is especially the case with young children. No one expects a young child to be diagnosed with diabetes. But it does happen and instances of juvenile diabetes unfortunately are rising at an alarming rate.
Dr. Sherry Meinberg dispels the mystery surrounding diabetes for parents, teachers, and caregivers. The book discusses diabetes in detail, from the negative emotions that are associated with the disease to how to cope with dietary changes, emergency situations, checking glucose levels, giving insulin injections, and how to live with the disease. The picture book is also uniquely written. The left side of each page spread is devoted to kids and written in a language and format that they can understand while the right side is written for the adults who care for diabetic children. It is a picture book full of very valuable information about the disease and how to cope with it.
Diabetes ABC is a must-read for any newly diagnosed juvenile diabetic. However, it can also offer solace for the suffering diabetic who feels very angry and scared after being newly diagnosed. It is also a great resource for parents of diabetic children, a book which will offer lots of hope and inspiration. I loved the book from beginning to end.
