Brothers Forever: The Enduring Bond Between a Marine and a Navy Seal that Transcended their Ultimate Sacrifice is a heartfelt book written by Tom Manion, the father of Travis Manion, one of the two subjects of the book who were killed in combat. The powerful book shows how two men, his son and Brendan Looney, both gave their lives for what they truly believed in. It is a captivating book that everyone, young and old, should read.
One compelling aspect of the book is that the authors include the details of many of the battles that Travis and Brendan were involved in. The book also describes some of their thoughts during the battle. The decisions that had to be made are breathtaking and captivating. I was entranced by the stories and moved to tears in many places.
The authors also capture the pain of the families when the two soldiers lose their lives for their country. The families had to live with worry and fears every day when their loved ones were deployed. I can’t imagine how it would be to learn the news they did one day.
After reading the book, most readers will also get a sense of how proud the two men were to serve and protect their country. It is great to see how two men, one a Marine and the other a Sailor, could have so much in common at the end. I was absolutely enthralled by the stories of these courageous men.
It is a great tribute that they are buried together side by side in Arlington National Cemetery. It just goes to show that bonds can occur, and especially in the line of duty. This book is a very inspiring and powerful read. It makes one wish that there were fewer wars; yet, the last 13 years have shown us anything but.
Brothers Forever is an incredible story of brotherhood and heroism. Brendan and Travis represent the finest part of a generation that answered the call after the 9/11 attacks.
