It is said that health is wealth. The word health comes from the root of the word ‘whole’ and is connected to the word ‘holy.’ An ancient path to wholeness and health is called The Path of the Chakras. The chakras are energy centres within the subtle body. It is the health of the subtle body that most impacts the well being and health of the physical body.

A book that invites a deeper understanding of the chakra system is Archetypal Chakras:  Meditations and Exercises for Opening your Chakras by Arnold Bittlinger. Do not be put of by the word archetype that is included in the title. This book is easy to read and shares an understanding of the seven main chakras in some very unique ways.

One part of this book is of deep personal interest. This is that part which is titled ‘Chakra Symbolism in Fairy Tales.’ Fairy tales are not simply stories told to entertain small children. They are deep stories that map the journey of the human being through various stages of personal and spiritual development. Fairy tales tell the story of the path to union of the personal with the universal, of the path to union of time with the timeless and form with the formless. This is an experience of real magic and mystery.

Another interesting aspect of this book is the way in which the lines from the Lord’s Prayer are interrelated in relation to the seven chakras. For those who pray this prayer daily, as I do, there is a great opportunity to deepen one’s connection to this prayer and make it into a deep body prayer. This is where the grace, the beauty and power of the transcendental is radiated through a body that is in alignment with the flow of such energy. It is in this way that Heaven is brought to earth. It is in this way that the will of Love is made manifest in this world of form.

The book is broadly divided into two parts. One part looks at the way in which the seven chakra system is viewed in the East and the other part shows how this system is viewed in the Western world. The path of the chakras is the symbol for our journey in life. Following this path is the great adventure which leads to health and wholeness beyond imagination. To remain healthy one is highly recommended to learn to maintain the health of the subtle energy body. Archetypal Chakras: Meditations and Exercises for Opening the Chakras gives practical guidance on this path of unfolding the wholeness that you already are and are here to express in your own unique way.
