When we hear “it’s cancer” from a doctor, most of us are shocked beyond comprehension. And our life then comes to a screeching halt and unravels as if we’re going backwards in slow motion.

Dena Mendes is a cancer survivor! She was ravaged by breast cancer and other cancers until she woke up and had a complete metamorphosis. She didn’t want to be a victim of this disease any longer. In fact, she wanted to kick cancer’s ass, and she did!  She went into remission after a very lengthy battle with the disease. And she encourages all of us to do the same.

In order to deal with a cancer diagnosis, we have to detox from the inside out. We have to cleanse our toxic, stagnant emotions and mind sets. Many of us hang onto them as if they are part of the fabric of our being. We don’t need these toxic emotions. In fact, they can make us ill over time.

We must also detox our bodies to be healthy and cancer free. Mendes goes through all the ways that we can cleanse ourselves and how we should eat right and get enough rest and sleep for optimal health.

But, most importantly, we must compose ourselves again by reinventing, revamping, refocusing, and renewing ourselves. We can do so by de-cluttering our lives and minds. We should also de-clutter our homes from needless junk. This junk can also weigh us down.

A Survivor’s Guide to Kicking Cancer’s Ass is a must read for anyone who is concerned about their health. Most of us know someone with cancer we could pass this book along to. I couldn’t put Mendes’ book down. It has encouraged me to eat right and take care of myself like never before. Mendes is so inspiring.  And she will be for you too!
