Book Review: ‘3 Off the Tee: No Excuses: The Fit Mind-Fit Body Strategy Book’ by Lorii Myers

3OffTheTee3 Off the Tee: No Excuses: The Fit Mind-Fit Body Strategy Book by Lorii Myers is a motivational guidebook designed to help you achieve success with practice and planning, smart choices and removing excuses from your play book.  Myers uses a sports analogy approach, comparing life to a game of golf.  While following the guidelines in this book will help you achieve success in every aspect of your life, the focus is on overall health, with your mind and body working together to create the best you possible.

The book is divided into several sections.  The Front Nine, or the first nine chapters, is about creating your success action plan.  Each chapter represents a hole on the golf course and by the end of the 9th Hole you will have learned some strategies to achieve success.  In The Back Nine chapters you prepare to execute your success action plan with step-by-step instructions.  Myers urges readers to be true to themselves by increasing self-awareness, taking responsibility for your actions, eliminating excuses and striving for continued improvement while working towards your goal(s).

The golf analogy is very creative but a bit too distracting for me — and I play a bit of golf! Honestly I just wanted to skip past all the golf metaphors to the “meat” of the message.  There I found simple and practical advice, some great tips, and just the right amount of inspiration and motivation to make the plan easy enough to apply to everyday life.  There are questionnaires to help you focus on what you want to achieve.  Myers also recommends creating and using affirmations (she refers to them as bold statements) to motivate you every morning!  Keeping it real, she also developed some pro-active “mantras” such as “don’t expect to be perfect, but work hard nonetheless” — great practical advice to keep you going through the tough times.

The dietary section really captured my attention.  It is full of “little lifestyle changes” that “add up to big results”!  There are tips on how to counteract cravings, a breakdown of the components of a healthy eating style, a meal planner and my favorite – the one day metabo blast, a way to boost your willpower and get some quick results to push through that plateau.

3 Off the Tee: No Excuses: The Fit Mind-Fit Body Strategy Book is a great motivational self-help guide for wellness and success with your fitness goals.
