Google is so ubiquitous, so pervasive in our online lives, Internet structure, news, business, psychology, even vocabulary — we don’t “search” anymore, we “google” — that we may take no more conscious notice of it than air. It just now dawned on me that Google — the search engine, the advertising broker, the innovator, the aggregator, the conduit, the corporate entity, for many the very Animating Spirit of the Internet — is among our most vital and consistently recurring topics.
