As the Evidence Mounts, It’s Hard to Deny That Saddam Hussein Had to Go

Yesterday, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) introduced articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney, citing his role in deceiving the American public on the reason to go to war in Iraq and topple the Saddam Hussein government.

Dennis Kucinich is the guy who always runs for President, so he is on the radar once every four years. Oh yeah, he is also the guy who pushes his way to the aisle to have his picture taken with President Bush at each State of the Union address. He is the 21st century Harold Stassen.

The Democrats are holding hearings on everything the Bush administration has done in the past six years. There is a calculated attempt to hold to account every action taken by the administration, all of which are gleefully covered and reported as fact by the left leaning media.

Blessed July (Tamooz Mubarak)

There is a problem with this tactic by the Democrats. As more and more Iraqi government papers are uncovered, there is mounting evidence that the regime of Saddam Hussein had planned to use loyalist Fedayeen fighters to carry out terrorist attacks and assassinations throughout the world.

The Iraqi Perspectives Project, a study written through the Joint Center for Operational Analysis, has reviewed and analyzed Iraqi documents and has uncovered substantial evidence that Saddam Hussein was taking a lead role in the promulgation of terror throughout the world, including using terrorist attacks within his own country to divert any pressure away from his government.

One plan, “Tamooz Mubarak” or “Blessed July”, shows that in May 1999, the Iraqi government planned to carry out terrorist attacks and assassinations throughout Europe, Iran and the controlled territories in Iraq. The project utilized the ultra-loyal Fedayeen and was headed by Uday Hussein.

Below is a copy of a translated document published on the Foreign Military Studies Office’s Joint Reserve Intelligence Center website. It shows Iraq and Saddam Hussein’s objective to become a major player in the terrorism business, a main premise of the Bush administration to go to war in Iraq.

Beginning of the translation:

In the Name of God the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
Respectful Mr. In Charge of Feedyeen Saddam
My respect and regards Sir.

Referral to your Excellency’s orders on the days of 20-25/05/1999 to start planning from on to perform special operations (assassinations/bombings) for the centers and the traitor symbols in the fields of (London/Iran/Self ruled areas) and for coordination with the Intelligence service to secure deliveries, accommodations, and target guidance.

Also, I would like to indicate here (according to the first directed operation plan) the explanations of all the orders and directives that have been issued to us by you during the first and the second meetings with your Excellency which lay the ground works toward our achieving the goal.

1. Code of the special operations (Blessed July)

10. Reforming the plan after noticing any revisions or additions that need to be re-written.
11. The final plans, with timing, and the necessary fundamentals for execution, should be written in two copies. Once copy for the higher authorities and the other copy to be kept with the working team until the order are issued.
12. General subjects
A. The ex-order in the Jordanian field is cancelled.
B. The traitors must follow (movements, residences, activities) at all fields at this time.
C. Discussion of the work possibilities at the Lebanese field.
D. Reminders of the usage of the death capsules (Penephedine) when members are captured at the European filed. E- Any limitation that will arise… (Translator note: incomplete)
5. Execution steps.
A. Select 50 Fedayeen martyrs according to required specifications.
B. Admit them in a seminar at the Intelligence School to prepare them for the required duties.
C. After passing the tests they will be selected for the target as follow:
First: The first ten will work in the European field (London)
Second: The second ten will be working in the Iranian field.
Third: The third ten will be working in the Self ruled area.
D. After passing the final test the Fedayeens will sent as undercover passengers, each one according to his work site, for the purpose of preparations and to acquire and coordinate with the Intelligence Apparatus and Mr. ‘Aiath.
6. After completion of what is indicate in (5) above the major and general steps should be prepared for execution and are to be supervised by the respectful Mr. Supervisor and to determine his remarks.
7. Revisions of the plan, according to the (Supervisor) remarks, coordination, and description of the plans will be presented to the Intelligence Apparatus as follows.

End of Pentagon translation.

The Conversation

As the 2008 election draws near (goodness, I can’t believe it’s only 19 months away), let’s have a little balance in the reporting in the mainstream media.

Many on the left state there is no evidence that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, although he told the world he did, and he has used them before on his own people.

Now, as the Allied forces are uncovering and analyzing more and more documents, it is evident that Saddam’s regime not only harbored terrorists, it actually had plans to spearhead the effort throughout the world, together with a plan to divert attention from his regime by planning attacks within Iraq.

If the loyal opposition, and especially the far left, or as I like to call them the ‘hard left’ continue to deny any evidence that contradicts their fundamental premises, they will continue to be marginalized in this dialogue as well as all other conversations on the political horizon.

Just like Dennis Kucinich.

Point of clarification – The Iraqi Perspectives Project probably needs a little contexting around it that seems to be absent from this article.

The Project is designed to look at the mindset and decision-making processes that impacted the Iraqi (and Saddam’s) strategic thinking and tactics. In short, what was the Iraqi view of things and how did the internal environment within which they operated affect their strategic and political responses?

The basic idea is that while we have a fairly solid look at the decision-making from our own side of the fence, it is rare that the opportunity exists to see the view from the opposite side.

I would note that while the document does cover some aspects of Iraqi activities and involvement in terrorism, that specific content mostly seems to relate to terrorist and Fedayeen activities internally.

It would be a misnomer and an overstatement to identify this publication as a document supporting a strong or substantial case for Iraqi involvement in international terrorism. The publication is not designed or intended as an outline of Iraqi terror activities but of the view from “the other side”, and intended to provide a “lessons learned” perspective on Iraqi political and strategic thinking.

“Many on the left state there is no evidence that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, although he told the world he did, and he has used them before on his own people.”

There is offical proof that Hussein possessed no WMD and had no links to terrorism — by international organizations and by the US senate.

Thats not a matter of opinion.

And thats why you have NO SOURCES supporting that claim.

    How ridiculous.

    Stop wasting everyones time.

“There is offical [sic] proof that Hussein possessed no WMD and had no links to terrorism”

Actually, Saddam was encouraging suicide bombers to attack Israel by giving tens of thousands of dollars to the families of these terrorists. That’s a “link to terrorism” as far as I’m concerned.

    Also, read this:

On September 30, 2004, the U.S. Iraq Survey Group Final Report concluded that, “ISG has not found evidence that Saddam Husayn [sic] possessed WMD stocks in 2003, but the available evidence from its investigation — including detainee interviews and document exploitation — leaves open the possibility that some weapons existed in Iraq although not of a militarily significant capability.” Among the key findings of the final ISG report were:

    1. Evidence of the maturity and significance of the pre-1991 Iraqi Nuclear Program but found that Iraq’s ability to reconstitute a nuclear weapons program progressively decayed after that date;
    2. Concealment of nuclear program in its entirety, as with Iraq’s BW program. Aggressive UN inspections after Desert Storm forced Saddam to admit the existence of the program and destroy or surrender components of the program;
    3. After Desert Storm, Iraq concealed key elements of its program and preserved what it could of the professional capabilities of its nuclear scientific community;
    4. Saddam’s ambitions in the nuclear area were secondary to his prime objective of ending UN sanctions; and
    5. A limited number of post-1995 activities would have aided the reconstitution of the nuclear weapons program once sanctions were lifted.

The report found that “The ISG has not found evidence that Saddam possessed WMD stocks in 2003, but [there is] the possibility that some weapons existed in Iraq, although not of a militarily significant capability.” It also concluded that there was a possible intent to restart all banned weapons programs as soon as multilateral sanctions against it had been dropped, with Hussein pursuing WMD proliferation in the future: “There is an extensive, yet fragmentary and circumstantial, body of evidence suggesting that Saddam pursued a strategy to maintain a capability to return to WMD after sanctions were lifted…”[94] No senior Iraqi official interviewed by the ISG believed that Saddam had forsaken WMD forever.

In the Saddam tapes, one of Saddam’s aides insists the inspections are meaningless, since Iraq retained the technical skill and personnel to reconstitute the program at a later date.[95]

I don’t know why America continues to wring its hands over the decision to remove Saddam.

He was a truly murderous bastard and deserved everything he got. There is no doubt he had his fingers in the terrorism pie, even if he wasn’t directtly linked to Bin Laden.

Most Iraqis are glad he’s gone. It’s not the US invasion – which they saw as a liberation – that was the problem, it’s been the conduct of the war since. The problems started about the time a US soldier, in direct contravention of orders, wrapped the Stars and Stripes around the head on the statue of Saddam in downtown Baghdad.

Abu Ghraib (can anyone believe reservists and serving US correctional officers from small-town America were sent to carry out such a sensitive task?) and heavy-handed tactics with the civilian population were the petrol on the fire.

It’s a problem that needs to be addressed and real amends made, because Arabs have very long memories. But that alone should be enough to keep the US engaged in the task at hand.

If all this ‘mounting evidence’ is as solid as Rick seems to think it is, you have to wonder why the Bush admin. isn’t trumpeting it from the White House roof.

And RJ: “the possibility that some weapons existed in Iraq although not of a militarily significant capability“? That single sentence contains more hedging than a landscape gardeners’ convention. Hardly compelling justification after the fact.

Possible, but unlikely. That would require a degree of sophistication and subtlety which the Bush White House has not hitherto displayed.

This link about the weapons of mass destruction Saddam Hussein was trying to put together to build his new Babylonian Empire is accompanied by the following comments from Emmanuel Winston, a Middle East political analyst.

    —————————————————

“Dear Friends, We first heard this report directly from John Loftus at the First Annual Jerusalem Summit International Conference in October 2003 at the King David Hotel and at Root & Branch in greater detail the same week.

The only follow-on to this report is the visit of the Russian cruiser to Syria’s Latakia port to on-load a tonnage of unnamed materials. At the time, the Russian cruiser was involved in “war-games” but, suddenly broke away – making its unannounced trip to Syria and the special city of Latakia, a stronghold of the minority but ruling Alawites and the Hafez Al-Assad family. The big question is: What will all the media and pundits say when Saddam’s WMD are finally dug up and uncovered in the desert or fields of Syria or Lebanon ….unless Russia got ‘em?

Clearly, Russia under Vladimir Putin, has returned to its days of arming terrorist nations, using them as cut-outs to attack America by proxy terrorists. Putin has returned to his Cold War occupation when he was a KGB officer, while using the U.N. to shield himself and his war-oriented nation.” (Comments by Emanuel A. Winston)

    ###

The Israeli government informed the US government that the WMD had been moved to Syria and then to the Beqa’a in Lebanon and even gave the precise location where it had all been buried. The U.S. government dismissed it as “Israeli disinformation”. Then a high level Iraqi official defected to the Americans and gave them the same information, plus the additional info that the whole operation was supervised by Andre Primakov, a top official of Russian intelligence. Incompetence? I think that’s being charitable. I think the administration buried the information because the Saudis wanted it buried. (Comments by Jack Golbert).

    —————————————————

It seems fairly clear that Saddam Hussein had plans to use these weapons. Now, they are in the hands of others, who may use them as well. The likely victim of these weapons will be – wait for it – Israel.

    Rick,

Tammuz Mubarak is improperly translated as “blessed July”. Tammuz is a month in the ancient Babylonian and rabbinic named after the Sumerian “god,” Tammuz, and takes place around June or July.

I realize that YOU did not translate this document, so I’m not criticizing you. But note how Euro-centric these Pentagon translations can get. Here is an example of why you see where Biblical translation can get hairy…

  • Zedd

This is really sad to watch.

    Let it go bud!

“I don’t know why America continues to wring its hands over the decision to remove Saddam.”

Agreed. No use crying over spilled milk. They did the right thing. Sometimes we don’t see things in the short term. Let me add that the Arab states in the region were also very pleased behind the scenes.

  • Zedd

If there were WMDs in Iraq you had better believe that it would be plastered all over the the place.

If Saddam was a terrorist supporter the Bush administration would have blasted it all over the air in exagerated terms 3000 fold.

This administration is the spin machine above all others. If you hear a smattering of something KNOW that it doesn’t exist. If there is an unvailing KNOW that it is at its proposal stage. If there is a media blits KNOW that a small element or version of the story has been discovered.

Also its not the left or far left that KNOWS that Saddam had no significant ties to terror, its EVERYONE except the crazy conspiracy theorists who always know something that no one else knows.

    Stop fishing. It discredits you.

We were wrong (not really we knew the truth and ignored it so that we could go to war). Hundreds of thousands are dead.

    REALITY CHECK:

    – Osama hasn’t been touched

    – Al Qaeda is spreading all over the globe and recruiting more people everyday.

    – We were attacked by BOX CUTTERS. Get a grip on yourself!!!

  • http://blogcritics.org/writer/clavos Clavos

We were attacked by BOX CUTTERS. Get a grip on yourself!!!

    Nice framing, Zedd.

However, the fact, as everyone knows, is we were attacked by terrorists, who were very successful.

  • http://www.elitebloggers.com Dave Nalle

Blaming the box cutters on 9/11 is rather like blaming the guns for Cho’s rampage at VaTech. Typical twisted leftist thinking to blame the innanimate object not the person whose choice to use it turns it into a weapon.

    Dave

  • Ruvy in Jerusalem

    Zedd,

    Telling you all that

    1. The Iraqis were developing weapons of mass destruction, and

    2. These weapons were moved out of the country before the Americans attacked in 2003

is like trying to tell people in 1944 that the Germans were gassing millions of people in Eastern Europe. The reports were all over the place and dismissed. Impossible!

Your arrogant dismissiveness is symptomatic of a person used to burying her head in the sand so as not to hear undesirable truths. Don’t feel bad. Most of humanity is like you, my dear. That is one of the reasons there is so much tragedy and sadness in the world.

  • http://www.elitebloggers.com Dave Nalle

Also its not the left or far left that KNOWS that Saddam had no significant ties to terror, its EVERYONE except the crazy conspiracy theorists who always know something that no one else knows.

Zedd, everyone DOES know about Saddam’s ties to terrorism, they just choose to ignore the facts. Because his primary ties were to terrorists in Israel rather than al Qaeda those on the left choose to ignore them because at heart they don’t think terrorism against Israel is a bad thing. But the facts are the facts, no matter how much you or they try to deny them.

    Dave

You are dead on about this Rick. The truth on this will come out eventually.
