The Billboard Music Awards is an annual American award show sponsored by Billboard Magazine. Winners are presented awards for the top album, artist, and song for each genre based on the Nielsen data for sales, downloads, and airplay. They also present the Billboard Millennium Award and Billboard Century Award (renamed to Icon Award in 2011) which are the highest honors for the show.
Janet Jackson has won the most Billboard Music Awards with a total of 34 awards. Michael Jackson is the male with the most amount of awards with a total of 31. Usher won the most amount of awards in one year with a whopping 14 awards in 2004.
The Billboard Music Awards were held in December until it was canceled in 2007 when the FOX network contract expired. In May 2011, Billboard moved the award show to ABC network. The 2011 Billboard Music Awards had some headline making performances, behind the scene pillow fights, and a surprising lip lock.
