My Early Christmas of Coffee and Music

Posted in Electronics, Music, Home at 8:13 am by Craig

When I tell you that this has already been one of the best Christmas’ ever. I mean, from an emotional standpoint and all that jazz it has been great, but this time I am talking about the presents. I feel like a five-year old when I say that, but Jen really did great stuff this year.

First, the magical coffee maker that makes coffee one cup at a time. She also made sure she stocked it with consumables for a little while, including some Hot Chocolate T-discs which are unbelievable.

And that wasn’t all. Then, showing that she really does listen to every littly thing that I say, Jen took an obscure comment I made one time, and got me a Fender 25 watt practice amp so that I can rock out the electric guitar in my bedroom.

This is such a great day for my family too. We aren’t exactly high pressure gift-givers, but if there was any pressure on them at all to come up with good stuff to give me, that pressure is now gone. If this Christmas ended tomorrow, it would already be one of the best ever.

Death Cab for Cutie Nominated for a Grammy

Posted in Music at 10:19 pm by Craig

Death Cab for Cutie wasn’t even on the radar a few years ago, and now they are nominated for a Grammy. Who would have predicted this while listening to an album with an impossibly long title like, We Have the Facts and We’re Voting Yes, three years ago? Here they are a couple years down the road with a refined sound and making their own rules on a major label with a much more succinctly titled album called Plans which is competing with The Arcade Fire, The White Stripes, Beck and Franz Ferdinand for Best Alternative Music Album. Craziness. I guess this says a lot for the state of so-called Indie Rock in the here and now.

Richard Pryor’s Career Flood

Posted in Music, DVD/Video at 9:11 am by Craig

While most people think of Richard Pryor’s standup comedy, I am 26 years old, and I think of him more for his movies just based on what I was exposed to. Either way, it is quite sad that he is gone. It is even sadder that his last years were taken away from us, and more importantly from him and his family. In his honor, I figured I would post all Richard Pryor stuff today. Even if you don’t feel like buying anything, it is kind of cool to see all the stuff that he was involved in over the years. I wish I could have found a link to The Toy and Brewster’s Millions. I remember watching those two movies vividly when I was a little kid.

On with the flood.

I know some of you aren’t down with the MP3 thing yet. Some of you just love the artwork on the CD’s. The least you can do is buy CD’s for a serious discount, right? Also, some of you don’t want to mail DVD’s around all the time with Netflix. That’s ok. Just make sure you are getting good prices on your DVD’s. Overstock.com doesn’t have a complete collection of DVD’s and CD’s by any means, but what they do have are good prices.

Ipod’s Late Adopters

Posted in Electronics, Music at 4:18 pm by Craig

I know how you guys feel. The IPod boat has just passed right on by leaving you on the dock waving.

Maybe you were waiting for Sony to finally show its face in the portable music player market because you still remember how awesome that yellow sports walkman was back in 1989 when you purchased it at Sears.

Maybe you are terrified of the technological implications of converting that CD collection.

Maybe you are holding out to make sure that this MP3 Player thing is going to keep going as you sit there gazing distantly at your minidisc player with thoughts of what could have been.

Whatever the reason, I think it is a safe bet that if you are a music fan you need an MP3 player. While the IPod is starting to take a lot of heat from the backlashers, it is still one of the hottest products around and even your mother is using it now. So, don’t you think it is time for you to give it a shot?

It’s ok. Go on. Start your own personal revolution. Who cares that it has been going on for 5 years already. You can walk around your block pretending you just traded up to the brand new Video Ipod. Available in both black and white now.

Do it now. And while you are at it, throw away that minidisc player.
