Barbara Walters just released her idea of the 10 most fascinating people of 2005. Her list is more fascinating for whom it doesn’t include. Nine of Walters’ picks are celebrities and the tenth is Condi Rice, who is good friends with Oprah Winfrey. Here is her pathetic list:

1. Kanye West – A racist rapper whom Walters completely let slide with softball questions.
2. Natalee Holloway – A stupid girl who got drunk, then went off willingly with complete strangers and is now shark meat. Why she merits any more attention than the thousands of other crime victims is beyond me.
3. Lance Armstrong – Never asked him about steroid use.
4. Jamie Foxx – Nice guy who won an Oscar, but so what?
5. Teri Hatcher – Fortysomething airhead actress. Again, so what?
6. Tom Cruise – See South Park episode about Scientology.
7. Dakota Fanning – Child actor; I’m so impressed.
8. Tom Mesereau – Shylock who got alleged child molester MJ off. Barbara introduced him as one the most important people in the African-American community. Please.
9. Condi Rice – Again only on the list because of her friendship with Oprah and the Dick Morris book. Her role in the Bush Administration was barely mentioned.
10. Camilla Parker Bowles – She married Prince Charles, yawn, and was listed as the most fascinating.

Not one scientist, not one researcher, not one businessperson, not one American (hero) soldier, not one political figure, and not one real insight. Somebody looking back on 2005 from the future would think we are a society of idiots going by this stupid list.

Here are a few names she should have considered:
1. Michael Brown – FEMA boob.
2. Theresa Marie “Terri” Schiavo – Political puppet for the brain- dead right-to-life crowd.
3. Robert “Steve” Miller – Delphi CEO/Crook.
4. Pope Benedict – Former member of the Youth Nazi movement and now Pope.
5. Paul Martin – Canadian Prime Minister booted from office.
6. Laurie David – Environmental hypocrite; tells the little people to reduce their standard of living while living in a lavish mansion and flying in personal jet.
7. Ramsey Clark – Radical American defending Saddam Hussein; proves every vile lawyer joke is true.
8. German Chancellor Angela Merkel – The first female chancellor of Germany.
9. Mayor Ray Nagin – Incompetent mayor of New Orleans.
10. Vicente Fox – Mexican President and Director of the US Department of Immigration; claims Mexicans only take the jobs blacks are too lazy to do.

This list took me about two minutes to come up with, and it proves how little actual intelligence Barbara Wa Wa and her staff have. Go back to The View where your moronic insights are appreciated.

About John Bill

  • …but then, Barbara’s always been about tough, hard-hitting journalism. 😉

Why get all bent out of shape? She’s 89 years old, basically phoning it in now, and we *still* all watched it. Hey, there was nothing else on! This is not a sign of generalized journalistic decay or the apocalypse-at-large; it’s far too late for that.

  • I have to say I was thoroughly disappointed in Ms. Walters’ Ten Most Fascinating people. The special got an 8.9/14 share in the ratings making it the number 2 show for the timeslot. There’s no question that the show has become total fluff. Camilla Parker Bowles is about as interesting as a clamp on a hot water bottle bag hose.

Beth Holloway Twitty, Kanye West and Conoleeza Rice were OK choices; the rest sucked. Tom Cruise is a complete farce. I have to admit JB’s list is quite compelling though I don’t agree with N.O. Mayor Ray Nagin. I think the “citizens” of Louisiana would have been an interesting choice.

  • I lost respect for her when she joined the View. I understand she came up with the concept. I also think it might have been a good idea with a lot of promise, the result has been the lowest of the lowest common denominators when it comes to content and talent.

That said, I’m not surprised her list is all celebrity. She’s been rather slavish in pushing that envelope for quite some time. I think she’s one of those folks who obviously didn’t get out when they were at the top of their game.

  • Not to be picky but #5 is inaccurate: Paul Martin has not been “booted from office”. He lost a vote of non-confidence and now has to call an election. He remains “in-office” and in his role as Prime Minister until he loses said election.

You may now resume your usual programming.

  • Not to be picky, it would be tough to interview Terri Schiavo.

  • Interesting. Here in Mexico we don’t get to watch Barbara Walters any more. Ain’t it grand?

The writer’s list does seem far more interesting than hers although I, too, might have added some scientists, economists, social scientists, military strategists (are there any in this conflict?), etc.

The link to Vincente Fox’s statement is controversial which is appropriate for this kind of list. I wrote something somewhat similar to Fox’s comments on Blogcritics and was also roundly chastised. Still, for all their faults, the Mexicans (legal and not) tend to work hard in jobs that African-Americans and others refuse to do.

The President should have been more careful in saying it; but hardly was wrong given his point of view — protecting Mexican workers’ rights in the US.

  • … tend to work hard in jobs that African-Americans and others refuse to do.

Hmmm. I have to say I’ve agreed with what Presidente Fox stated. There is a perception that the majority of lower payng, lower skilled jobs are filled by African Americans. Then, on the pecking order, come the illegal immigrants who fill the void for the jobs that American minorities would refuse to do. Like it or not, that’s a pretty honest assessment of the labor market. The self righteous indignation of U.S. Officials over El Presidente’s remarks baffles me.

True equality has not been achieved by the African American community. There’s no doubt we’ve come a long way but there is far more left to do. We still have rampant racism in America. And just because the white folk run around saying that they would never use the “N”: word, we know that’s a bold faced lie. What’s not fair is the growing Hispanic community will eclipse the African American community and once again, they will be the ones who suffer. Maybe it’s time to get away from the hyphenated American paradigm. Can we get to the point where there are no Hispanic Americans or African Americans? Can we arrive to the mountaintop and just be Americans? It’s so nice to preserve cultures on paper but we have our own culture that is still developing after 200 years.

Not to be picky, it would be tough to interview Terri Schiavo.

Would it? How different would it be from an interview with an elected official? Not to be callous but Terri Schiavo was brain dead, our elected officials just act it.

  • MCH

Hasn’t the title “(So-and-So) Is A Big Fat Idiot” already been taken? I think it was Al Franken’s book about Rush Limbaugh.

  • Theresa Marie “Terri” Schiavo’s family could have been interviewed, or they could of made up some phony interview with her like her parents did.

  • Dee

Kanye ain’t racist. Just speaks the truth. Some people can’t handle that, and thats their problem. Open your eyes dude and your see for yourself.

And tell me the reason again why Bush sent our soliders to Iraq??

  • Kilroy

Bush sent our troops to Iraq because none were the sons and daughters of the ruling Elite, and in order to take over the rich oil fields. The plan was flawed, ill-conceieved and a complete disaster. The reason Bush KEEPS the troops in Iraq is becasue he is more concerned with appearng “wrong” than correcting a mistake. The kind of hubris and lack of concern for the working class that he’s learned over the years.

  • Sabrina

I have just randomly come across your page while look for photos of Barbara Walters, who just so happens to be one of the most hard-working, amazingly talented women in this century. Why you would bash such an amazing woman, I do not know. But I would like to say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, including you. So next time you decide to be inconsiderate & rude think about everything I have just stated. Thank you & have a great day.
