Kings and Queens
Axel Rudi Pell
(SPV)

The 10th CD from well-renowned guitarist ARP sees him again pairing with Hardline vocalist Johnny Gioeli. It will come as no surprise that the non-power metal songs on this CD sound very Hardline-like, never more so than on ‘Forever Angel’. This is definitely not a bad thing, and JG certainly has the pipes to keep up with the likes of Jorn, Andi Deris, and even Glenn Hughes (on Sailing Away). As with almost all of ARP’s releases, the musicianship is excellent on this release. Is this as good as the debut album from Masterplan? Not really, but that does not mean that ARP has not produced a fine selection of tunage that threads a clever line between Germanic power metal and hard rock. In a music world awash with samey sounding power/melodic metal releases, this one definetely rises above the pack.
