Esthero – We R In Need of a Musical Revolution

The Toronto music scene is more than well aware of the musical contributions of local artist J. Englishman. I used to run into Englishman’s sister, Jenny-Bea, browsing through the thrift stores of Kensington Market or checking out the bookshelves at The Eternal Moment Bookstore on Bloor Street. Just a few paces away from this bookstore is (now the one and ... Read More »

Music 10 Years After Kurt

Every April it hits me… the rapes/murders/suicides that tainted the grunge scene in 1994, the passing of Layne Staley, and all the angst and tragedy and darkness associated with a genre of music that once meant so much to me and my life. Maybe it still does. And what WAS grunge anyway? That’s like trying to figure out what PUNK ... Read More »

Stones Will Play In SARS-Shaken Toronto

Let’s face it. One has more of a chance of contracting a dis-ease by hanging out with the Rolling Stones as opposed to catching SARS from, say, riding the subway in Toronto, Ontario. Now, artists such as Justin Timberlake (who just earlier this month no-showed in Vancouver on the Stripped/Justified tour) will join the aging Stones in a benefit to ... Read More »

Morcheeba’s Greatest

Morcheeba have a “Best Of” album already? Yup, you heard that right. It seems like after the disappionting “Fragments of Freedom” my interest for this band all but dropped off the face of the earth. I’m not too familiar with “Charango” and I much preffered the mellower and much less commercial sounding “Big Calm” In fact, to this day the ... Read More »
