Announcement: Short-content feeds

Sunday, August 26, 2007, marks the switch of all Blogcritics.org article feeds from full-content to short-content. This is the result of several converging factors, and is unfortunately a permanent decision (as permanent as any decision can be on the web, that is). We are aware of all of the reasons that this is a Bad Idea, and we are aware that some of you will be quite upset about having to click on something to read the free content, and we're sorry. Unfortunately, despite great effort, full-content feeds are not currently economically viable. Two other factors are involved: full-content feeds have resulted in an unprecedented level of content theft, with BC content appearing on many websites, usually spam sites, without attribution or permission. This duplicate content causes a cascading set of problems, not the least of which is that search engines generally aren't favorable to duplicate content, and don't always guess correctly. Finally, our RSS advertising partner is strongly in favor of short-content feeds. We hope that you'll continue to subscribe to BC via RSS, and when an article grabs your eye, it's only a click away, still free on the BC website. Thank you for your understanding.

Fear not, we're back to the front-like, right here - just click and enjoy:Dumpster Bust Radio: Podcast #10It's a little bit of a best of this go round, with songs blasting out by the likes of Stucky, Pacemaker Jane, and Blogcritics.org's own Aaron McMullan. DB Radio #10 seemed like a good time to step back and smell the digital roses. It also may (sadly) be the last show for a while, which lends a maddening poignancy to the proceedings, I'm sure you'll find. Or not. But hopefully you'll enjoy as there's an entire hour of Blogcritics.org founder and general guru Eric Olsen talking about media, blogging, podcasting, and even Michael Jackson. It's the second part of the interview: raw and uncut for your listening pleasure. As I point out on the show, huge and grand thanks to everyone who has listened to the show, given feedback and encouragement (much more than I ever expected!), or who has taken a moment to pop off a comment of an e-mail. Delving headlong into podcasting - my first experience in broadcasting - has been a wonderful experience. I'm hopeful that DB Radio will be back in some form at some point, but right now I'm trying to hone in on my various and sundry writing and editing duties. Dumpster Bust Radio: Podcast #1

Well, I finally did it. I delved into the podcasting / Internet radio game and proudly present to you the debut of Dumpster Bust Radio:Dumpster Bust Radio: Podcast #1The show is kind of magazine style, and discusses many of the subjects that I write about on my home site, Dumpster Bust, but with plenty of room for asides, meanderings, coughing, sipping coffee, and the occasional joke or two. Keep in mind that this is my first foray into broadcasting, so the show will undoubtedly get better. In fact, I rank my efforts as follows in getting everything up and running:Technical / Back-end / Server stuff / Making the sound not sound like urchins screeching for their very lives underwater whilst wearing tin foil helmets: 90% Content: 6% Post-production: 4%So hopefully with your kind suggestions (or not-so-kind and hideous and baldly awful - either way I'll be pleased pink to hear from you) it will get better.
