Announcement: Short-content feeds

Sunday, August 26, 2007, marks the switch of all Blogcritics.org article feeds from full-content to short-content. This is the result of several converging factors, and is unfortunately a permanent decision (as permanent as any decision can be on the web, that is). We are aware of all of the reasons that this is a Bad Idea, and we are aware that some of you will be quite upset about having to click on something to read the free content, and we're sorry. Unfortunately, despite great effort, full-content feeds are not currently economically viable.

Two other factors are involved: full-content feeds have resulted in an unprecedented level of content theft, with BC content appearing on many websites, usually spam sites, without attribution or permission. This duplicate content causes a cascading set of problems, not the least of which is that search engines generally aren't favorable to duplicate content, and don't always guess correctly. Finally, our RSS advertising partner is strongly in favor of short-content feeds.

We hope that you'll continue to subscribe to BC via RSS, and when an article grabs your eye, it's only a click away, still free on the BC website. Thank you for your understanding.

Download BCRadio PodcastIt's the anniversary show, boys and girls! BCRadio turned 1-year old this week. Can you believe it?This week's show is a good one, featuring five good minutes with Eric Olsen. EO and I talk about the show, about me, about you, about all of us- mostly about me. Naturally, this is my favorite segment. We also talk a little bit about the Oscars and put this year's Academy Awards to bed. Also joining me on the show is Dawn Olsen. Dawn and I cover Mayor Rudy and his kids, Ann Coulter and John Edwards' hair, and even manage some time for American Idol. This week, we are also joined by our own Duke De Mondo. As I did in the show, I want to thank publicly all of our loyal listeners and my regular guests:Eric OlsenDawn OlsenEric BerlinPhillip WinnJoan HuntMatt SussmanMark SaleskiMary K.
BCRadio Podcast - February 27, 2007: American Idol's Antonella Barba and Ace Frehley

Download the BCRadio PodcastThis week's show features five good minutes with Eric Olsen (which naturally turns into more like 10). EO and I discuss the (untrue) rumor that KISS guitarist Ace Frehley committed suicide (he didn't). We also take a moment to discuss our favorite Bruce Springsteen songs. We are also joined by the Mother Superior of Glosslip, Dawn Olsen. Dawn and I spend most of our segment discussing a series of photographs of American Idol contestant Antonella Barba circling the internet. One set of photos is legit, the other set turned out to be less. Neither set rates as particularly classy.
Josh Hathaway is Assistant Music Editor for BC Magazine.

Download the BCRadio Podcast. It is the Valentine's Day edition of the BCRadio podcast. It's not supposed to be. The show was supposed to be up on Monday. Loyal listeners have learned to be very patient with me as we occasionally run behind... like this week. So download this week's show. It's better than stale chocolates. This week's episode is a biggie. Glosslip's Dawn Olsen recaps the sad saga of Anna Nicole Smith and Mary Williams recaps this week's double shot of 24.We also have the return of Duke De Mondo, or Aaron McMullan as he is also known.
BCRadio Podcast, February 5, 2007: Super Bowls, anti-Christs, BC of the Month, and GlossLip

Download the BCRadio Podcast.A short show this week, but a good one. Topics this week range from 24 to the recently-played Super Bowl as well as some topics of a more insular nature. We congratulate our new BC of the Month, Tom Johnson. That segues us nicely into the introduction of a new feature in the BC Magazine music section, The Listening Room. I am particularly proud of this series as it was, well, my idea. I think we're going to have some fun with it.Before bringing in our guest, I also take some time to fawn all over the great work Dawn Olsen is doing over at Glosslip. If you haven't been to this newest addition to the emerging BC Network, you are cheating yourself of comedic and literary gold. Deny yourself no further. Get thee to Glosslip. Our guest this week is Ken Edwards. Ken and I make fun of Sussman's curling fetish and talk about this new Nintendo Wii game, WarioWare.
Josh Hathaway is Assistant Music Editor for BC Magazine.
