Announcement: Short-content feeds

Sunday, August 26, 2007, marks the switch of all Blogcritics.org article feeds from full-content to short-content. This is the result of several converging factors, and is unfortunately a permanent decision (as permanent as any decision can be on the web, that is). We are aware of all of the reasons that this is a Bad Idea, and we are aware that some of you will be quite upset about having to click on something to read the free content, and we're sorry. Unfortunately, despite great effort, full-content feeds are not currently economically viable.

Two other factors are involved: full-content feeds have resulted in an unprecedented level of content theft, with BC content appearing on many websites, usually spam sites, without attribution or permission. This duplicate content causes a cascading set of problems, not the least of which is that search engines generally aren't favorable to duplicate content, and don't always guess correctly. Finally, our RSS advertising partner is strongly in favor of short-content feeds.

We hope that you'll continue to subscribe to BC via RSS, and when an article grabs your eye, it's only a click away, still free on the BC website. Thank you for your understanding.

(9.3 MB ++ 33m 40s)The MP3 link ::: HERE::: RSS FEED :::Historic By the power of example if nothing else, I've convinced the powers that be that podcasting is a good thing for Blogcritics and all mankind. Well, at least the former. (Stay tuned for more news on that or listen to the podcast)There's a blooper reel and a hidden track in the mix so enjoy the journey through :::• a parody song "Everything Sounds Like ColdPlay Now" by Mitch Benn and The Distractions• a small section of a 60-minute interview with Ismail Valentin, the independent filmmaker of "Coyote Busters. The gab fest (OK, I mostly listened), done at the Cookie Jar with tinkling dishes, cell phones and a short squall of crying baby is split into two sections• with Green To Think's "Liar Like Me" of the new CD of the same name in between.• Matt Sussman has a unique theory about the power of footwear in athletics to determing the winners (Think Red Sox, White Sox). And he goes jockstrap searching at Toys R' Us. • Scott C. Smith takes hold of the subject of Reality Show humiliation and walks away disappointed with PBS's not-bitchy-enough approach to the genre. I added Pearl Jam's "Doin' The Evolution" to play in the background.(**All complete songs or extended excerpts used with permission.)

(19MB +++ 40m 59s) ::: MP3 link ::: HERE::: RSS FEED :::L ast time out, we reduced the bitrate down too far in the interest of size. A few people, including two of those who offered their music to the Podcast, noticed this degradation of sound quality. This time the file size is a bit larger because Podcasts really are designed for those with broadband connections. Those podcasts with music are going to be larger than those that are talking only.Blogcritics Radio Podcast Show 3 also brings a reluctant change - an early exit for the Editors' Picks for the Podcast. The long list of worthy posts here at Blogcritics.org just did not translate well to the audio form. It slowed down whatever else was going on.Podcast Timeline00:00 ::: Intro, Temple traumatized by his car and its death. Temple's Law of Car Repair Finance comes to life.02:40 ::: The Obnoxious Couple and their good memories of each other and their pissed off moments. Try to tell the difference. Funny.12:23 ::: Aaron McMullan - Blue From Black, from the online album "Broke Sun Fixed." Acoustic.15:38 ::: The PJ - Doing Explanation things and urging you to join Blogcritics if you want to join the podcast.17:34 ::: Tony Figueroa - live comedy about life in Cincinnati, and a moment with the KKK. Recorded at the Coffee Fix. Comedy is his ... er ... night job.22:36 ::: The PJ names the CONTEST WINNER. ... ... The other big event of this BRPS 3 is the announcement of the contest winner. The contest delivered at the last podcast was to name the songs and performers or composers of a montage of 31 songs that played at the beginning of BC Radio Podcast 1The prize is a $90 Sony Digital Voice Recorder ICD-P210And it was _______, well, you'll have to listen to the Podcast to find out. Excellent rock track.28:13 ::: The PJ, angel food cake, why Editor Picks is no more on the podcast, "editing scenario", and 90 percent pay attention to grammar.30:00 ::: DJ Radiohead on sports. E-mail me)::: The MP3 link, download here (Updated) :::::: The RSS Feed LINK :::Welcome to the first Blogcritics Radio Podcast Show. This show, more than those that follow will, does a little bit more explaining about what the site is all about. We plan to soon, let a lot of people know this audio version of Blogcritics exists.I'm jazzed about this Podcast's potential as a real variety radio show. As mentioned before when I introduced this idea, the Blogcritics Radio Podcast Show (BRPS) is not going to become talk radio; partisan politics will be avoided so we can all enjoy what's going on.We have the original works of a couple of the site's regular contributors and examples of what the Podcast will bring in the future.Any technical tips will be appreciated, especially on how to get the size of the Podcast down. I do know I have to get my mouth a little farther away from the headset microphone to lesson the obscene phone call vibe. And as I say in the podcast, if you think you can do as good or better, please send your mp3s to bcradiopodcast@gmail.comSame address for absolutely any question, technical, musical, or to book our talent. Same address for your own site or Podcast ad promos - 40 seconds or less. The following listing is what is going on in the Podcast :::INTRO::: 1:14 ::: Wherein Mathew Sussman owes me money - or at least a listen to my own Podcast as I name myself Temple "Tasman" Stark.
