Announcement: Short-content feeds

Sunday, August 26, 2007, marks the switch of all Blogcritics.org article feeds from full-content to short-content. This is the result of several converging factors, and is unfortunately a permanent decision (as permanent as any decision can be on the web, that is). We are aware of all of the reasons that this is a Bad Idea, and we are aware that some of you will be quite upset about having to click on something to read the free content, and we're sorry. Unfortunately, despite great effort, full-content feeds are not currently economically viable.

Two other factors are involved: full-content feeds have resulted in an unprecedented level of content theft, with BC content appearing on many websites, usually spam sites, without attribution or permission. This duplicate content causes a cascading set of problems, not the least of which is that search engines generally aren't favorable to duplicate content, and don't always guess correctly. Finally, our RSS advertising partner is strongly in favor of short-content feeds.

We hope that you'll continue to subscribe to BC via RSS, and when an article grabs your eye, it's only a click away, still free on the BC website. Thank you for your understanding.

PC Game Review: Hidden Expedition - Titanic

Have you ever scoured the house looking for something, only to find it's been right in front of your nose all along? If so, you get the gist of Hidden Expedition: Titanic. As the story goes, The Hidden Expedition Adventure League has recently uncovered an exciting fact; A crown belonging to the Queen was being transported to an exhibit in New York aboard the Titanic on it's final voyage. Your mission is to explore the wreckage, collect antique artifacts for the Titanic Museum, and to uncover clues which will lead you to the location of the Queen's crown. The game consists of 14 dive expeditions covering 17 different areas of the ship. Each expedition involves searching two to three rooms where you are given a list of artifacts to retrieve for the museum.Sound easy? Well, not exactly. The items are often camouflaged so well, you could be staring right at them and still not see them. Once you think you've located an artifact on your list, you click on it to send it to the surface. Click on the wrong item, and it'll cost you ten seconds of oxygen. If you find yourself at your wit's end, there is a Hint option which will reveal the item's location, but using it will cost you a valuable two minutes of air. You are given from 20 to 30 minutes of oxygen for each dive, depending on the level you're on. Thirty minutes may seem like a long time, but believe me, there are rooms where you'll scour every inch of that screen, over and over again, and still not be able to find an item. Each room is literally packed to the rafters with beautifully detailed objects, either placed or designed to fool the eye. Each dive also includes a mini game where you'll find yourself either having to reassemble an old photograph, or search a room for specific objects given to you as images rather than a written list. Once you launch your search for these items, the images on your list become silhouettes, adding a whole new dimension to the treasure hunt. Although the artifacts must be handed over to the museum, there are five jewels hidden in each room which are "yours to keep." In order to retrieve the Queen's crown and win the game, you must have found all five jewels in every room.Hidden Expedition: Titanic is highly addictive, thoroughly entertaining, and a great game for the whole family. A word of warning, unless you don't mind "back seat drivers," make sure there's no one else in the room when you play! Hidden Expedition: Titanic is rated E (Everyone) by the ESRBPlease download the demo, and if you like it, purchase the game ($19.95).
