The journey into music videos (and other bits) continues its mission to deliver you something worthy of your time, perhaps introducing you to something new along the way.

This week I continue compiling videos and various musical related tidbits for your viewing pleasure. Some will be brand spanking new, while others will just be things I like. I am not great with timeliness, but I hope you've been enjoying these video collections.

Dream Theater - "Forsaken (live)"

Dream Theater has a new live DVD coming out soon. The two disk release is called Chaos in Motion and chronicles their latest world tour. To help get you (and me) a little excited for it a clip has been posted. The clip is for "Forsaken" and it sounds great; of course the YouTube quality does not give a good image impression, but I expect that to look great too.

Firewind - "Head Up High"

I cannot say that I have ever heard a Greek metal band before. For that matter, I am not sure I have ever heard a Greek band, period. That has changed now that I have heard Firewind. The song "Head Up High" is a solid piece of straight up power metal. Strong, clean vocals, nice riff that catches, nice lead work, plenty of melody, overall a good metal song. There is no -core or extreme moniker to tag these guys with, they deliver straight up metal. I am definitely interested in hearing some more from these guys.

Dawn of Demise - "Extinction is Imminent"

Hailing from Denmark, Dawn of Demise have released a video for a track from their new EP. The song is "Extinction is Imminent" from the album Lacerated. Their debut album was released just this year, but they are not wasting any time in getting more material into the hands of the fans. I like the video, it is set in the studio and focuses primarily on performance footage. I like the point of view shots down the neck of the bass.

Also, here is the artwork and track list for Laceration:

01. Extinction Seems Imminent
02. Ridden With Disgust
03. Infecting The Crypts (SUFFOCATION cover)
04. Blinded By Fear (AT THE GATES cover)
05. Turned Inside Out (OBITUARY cover)

Powerman 5000 - "Bombshell (live clips)"

I have always like PM5K. They have put out consistently good rock albums and put on great live shows. No, they may not be at the forefront of the scene, and they have likely been forgotten by many, but that does not diminish what they have to offer. This video is a compilation of video clips made during their 2007 tour, set to "Bombshell" (which is from an album that never had an official release). If you like good rock that will get you out of your seat, see these guys if you have a chance. Also, if anyone is thinking of making a movie about Billy Idol, here's your guy.

Nice find in Firewind, Chris. I've never heard of them before either. They're sort of a cross between Zakk Wylde and Iron Maiden (just based on this one song). Definitely have to check them out now, and also can't wait for that new Dream Theater DVD to come out. Good stuff, as always.

Wow, that Brian Welch cut sounds exactly like most Korn tunes.

thanks Charlie! I may have o look out for Firewind's album.

You're right Jordan, I suspect that Welch was a main songwriter for the band, although I never checked. It would also explain the different direction they went in with their latest release. I just got the Head album, so expect a review in the near future!
