BC Radio Live: Troy Johnson, Christopher Tennant, AirPlay's Chris Bull, and Ralph Peters
Published August 13, 2008
BC Radio Live is the flagship program of the BC Magazine station on BlogTalkRadio. It's hosted by Phillip Winn, Eric Olsen, and Lisa McKay and airs weekly on Wednesday evenings at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. Shows are archived and available for streaming or download after the live broadcast. Our guests on August 6 were authors Troy Johnson, Christopher Tennant, and Ralph Peters, and AirPlay's Chris Bull.
Growing up is tough enough for most of us, but for author and radio personality Troy Johnson, adolescence was further muddled when his lesbian mother was unexpectedly outed by a former lover. He's written a book about all of this titled Family Outing: What Happened When I Found Out My Mother Was Gay. Johnson stopped by BC Radio Live to talk with us about the book, but unfortunately technical difficulties ended the conversation prematurely. We found Johnson to be a funny and engaging guest in the short time he was on the air, and the book has been enthusiastically described by reviewers as "scathingly funny," "honest and effectual," and "touching." Not aimed at a specific audience, Johnson's narrative touches on adolescence, sexual confusion, growing up, and being loved, which certainly makes it sound like a book that will have relevance for most readers. BC Magazine reviewer Garon Cockrell describes Family Outing as "already one of my favorite books of the year," and recommends it highly.
If you thought being filthy rich was easy, guess again. Christopher Tennant, who has written for New York magazine and the New York Times, stopped by the show to disabuse us of any such silly notions. Tennant, the author of the recently published The Official Filthy Rich Handbook, has a good handle on how much hard work goes into being filthy rich (and the definition of "filthy rich" may surprise you). Tennant shared with us the genesis of this witty book and talked about some of the archetypes he presents (which you can enjoy on the book's website, along with some entertaining excerpts and other materials). Whether you're wondering what to wear, what to drive, or what to listen to now that you've made/married/inherited millions, Tennant's witty, and perhaps slightly-more-than-true tome will get you there in style.
