Book Review: Holly Would Dream By Karen Quinn
Published July 31, 2008
Holly Ross leads a life that looks great on the outside, but inside, it leaves a lot to be desired. Her career as a historian in a fashion museum is on the rise, although Holly isn't sure she can trust that her boss will truly give her the promotion she deserves. Her love life, on the other hand, seems to be perfect. She's engaged to a Disney performer, he could do no wrong, right?
The small fact that her jazz performer dad now sleeps with the dogs at her friends' pet grooming business...well, it's not the best, but Holly knows it's not forever. She has a positive attitude about it all - even being dowsed in rain water by the passing car of a millionaire. (Hey, he did stop to give her a ride). So, what could possibly go wrong?
Little does Holly know that her life is about to take a nosedive. Within twenty-four hours she loses her promotion, her fiancé and even her home. She realizes that she's put up with too much for way too long and decides that the mess her life has become will be the catalyst for a whole new Holly. The problem is, she has no idea where to begin.
This charming story has it all. Hysterical characters, romance, and mystery combine to make some of the spunkiest contemporary fiction around. I immediately loved the main character and Holly's Audrey Hepburn mania combined with her hilarious, disastrous adventures make her even that much sweeter. Quinn has a way of writing that, despite being terribly funny, goes straight to the heart.
I hadn't read anything by author Janet Quinn previously, although her other novels, "Wife in the Fast Lane" and "The Ivy chronicles" are both well-reviewed. I can gladly say that this is an author that I want to add to my "to-read" lists - and you will, too.
