BC Sports Treehouse Fort Headlines For July 25
Published July 26, 2008
The following is a partial transcript of the July 26, 2008 episode of the BC Sports Treehouse Fort.
Tuffy: 50-year-old Nancy Lieberman has been signed by the Detroit Shock of the WNBA to a 7-day contract upon the loss of Cheryl Ford to an ACL tear caused by an on-court brawl. Lieberman impressed the Shock with her results on the skills test, which mostly involved light jogging, lateral movements, and showing off her left hook on the heavy bag.
Suss: The Milwaukee Brewers have won their last eight games and are one game behind the first place Cubs. Jim Hendry is considering re-acquiring Randall Simon before the trade deadline just so he has someone who can smack Ryan Braun with a baseball bat as he rounds third.
Tuffy: The Peoria Chiefs and Dayton Dragons partook in a raucous brawl Thursday after a series of hard-played events on the field caused numerous injuries. One pitcher was arrested when he attempted to throw at the opposing team's dugout but missed, sending a fan to the hospital. A supporting brief has already been filed on the fan's behalf by Keith Olbermann's mother.
Suss: Barry Bonds celebrated his 44th birthday on Thursday. Normalized for league averages and historical factors, he's actually 27.3.
Tuffy: Rudy Giuliani's son has been kicked off the Duke golf team. The young man has filed a lawsuit in protest of the decision. While no official reason for the dismissal has been formally released, it is believed he attempted to log a +7 on his scorecard at the par-four 8th at Congressional last fall instead of a +5. Giuliani's son's lawsuit requests a "+9/+11 commission" to review the matter.
Suss: Steve Bartman declined an invitation to make a public appearance at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Illinois, where one man offered to pay him $25,000 for his signature. Actually it wasn't that Bartman declined the invitation, he just had his headphones on really loud.
Tuffy: [wah wah wah wah wah] Brett Favre.
Suss: Charles Barkley has offered to help pay for a Philadelphia-area busboy's tuition to Temple University. Barkley said the reason behind this is that the busboy, majoring in education, has 5-2 odds of earning his Masters.
Tuffy: Olympic swimmer Jessica Hardy tested positive for a banned substance this week, likely keeping her from competing in Beijing next month. Even worse for the young lady, the World Anti-Doping Agency requested the urine sample after her brothers, the Hardy Boys, sent evidence of her alleged doping to WADA.
Suss: And finally, Formula 1 president Max Mosley received £60,000 in a lawsuit against British tabloid News of the World for publishing pictures of Mosley in a Nazi-themed sadomasochistic prostitute orgy. The judge ruled the pictures violated Mosley's privacy and found no Nazi connotations whatsoever. Mosley says he's finally glad to get this chapter of his life out of the way, although he didn't help matters much when he referred to the money he won in court as "Mein Kampf-ensation."
