Book Review: Sing Like An American Idol! Women's Edition Vol. 1: Top Hits

Recently, on hulu.com I found a clip of America’s Got Talent where a woman was crushing things with her breasts. It was horrifying to say the least. But you may be wondering why I bring up America’s Got Talent when this is a review of an American Idol song book.

Well, some American heathens have been saying that America’s Got Talent is better than American Idol. It doesn’t attempt to gain crowd appeal by focusing on the cheap and untalented. But I’d have to say that watching a woman break things with her breasts, though debatably a unique talent, stands as a stark contrast to that opinion.

In fact, these cheap thrills are what America is about, and American Idol is not below popular demand. There are still many talented and untalented Americans out there just waiting for their chance to be humiliated on TV. That is precisely why sheet music like Alfred’s first volume of Sing Like an American Idol! gets produced.

This top hits song book features eight of the most popular songs ever performed on American Idol, including “Because of you,” “Hero,” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.” It also includes a karaoke CD with vocal demos for the music-reading-challenged. I’m telling you, if you have a cow suit in your closet and $16.95 in your pocket, you could probably be aired on American Idol with this song book.

But even if American Idol isn’t your deal, I think this book would be great for any singer. There are some great tips from American Idol’s vocal coach Debra Byrd on stage presence, tone, and range to help any singer through an audition. Any of the songs presented in this book could add flare to your repertoire as a performer or actor.

So whether you are a true aspiring artist, a part time performer, or really feel the calling to put on the cow suit and try out for American Idol, this song book has just about everything you need.
