If the series had continued as it was intended, Veronica would have ended up in the FBI. Due to the threat of cancellation, Thomas decided to accelerate his plans for the character. After watching this pitch I definitely wanted to see what would happen next and learn the fates of all the cast from season three. Alas, the series was not picked up and the followers of the show were very disappointed.

There’s also a featurette about the pitch which while interesting would have been better as a commentary track for the pitch we just saw. The very interesting note from this feature is the fact that in twelve days the pitch was written to a completed teaser.

  • Deleted scenes: Each scene is introduced by series creator Rob Thomas. Many of these had to do with Veronica’s friend Mac, who was suffering with mental health issues after her boyfriend’s suicide at the end of the second season. Thomas blames the majority of the cuts on corporations’ interference and fear of losing advertising dollars.
  • Webisodes: These five snippets contain various set tours and cast interviews, the best of which is Kristen Bell and Chris Lowell (Piz) interviewing each other and getting sillier and sillier as the questions progressed.
  • Going Undercover: This is a series of interviews with Rob Thomas and producer Dan Etheridge that covers all of the major plot points of season two — from why they changed the theme song, to favorite guest stars and many of the series' highlights, to a proposed romance between Mac and one of her professors that never got off the ground.
  • Gag reel: Typical flubs and mistakes; still fun to watch, though.
  • Overall, this set is one that any Veronica Mars fan should have. It’s not only a fond farewell to the sassy spitfire we’ve grown to know and love, but the extras add so much more to the fan experience.
