Movie Media: Star Wars - Clone Wars, Death Race, Bangkok Dangerous, Burn After Reading, Twilight, Masters of the Universe, Disaster Movie, The Spirit
Published June 27, 2008
Welcome back to the Movie Media column, featuring trailers, posters, and clips for upcoming films. Some are nice and fresh and some aren't. However, they all have something in common: for better or worse, they all caught my attention. If there is a poster or trailer you think I should check out, be sure to let me know.
This week's movie goodies include posters, stills, and trailers for a few upcoming summer hits, including an animated film, a director's follow-up to an Oscar winner, a remake of a low budget '70s flick, an old '80s-era trailer, and more!
Star Wars: Clone Wars - Trailer
The first trailer for Clone Wars made me giddy. This latest version has me downright excited — not The Dark Knight excited, but I am quite anxious to see this. The animation looks very nice, the action looks great, and I am looking forward to a story that takes place during the Clone Wars. If it is similar in quality to the animated shorts that aired on Cartoon Network, I will be happy.
Death Race - Stills, Trailer
Back in the 1970s, Roger Corman produced a low budget sci-fi action flick called Death Race 2000. In 2008, Paul WS Anderson (Resident Evil, Event Horizon) is giving us his take on the story. Instead of doing a straight remake, he has seen fit to change some of the details. Now, this would have been better had they chosen a different name. Yes, the race is presented as a spectator sport, but there is no mention of a points system; instead, the winner gets to go free. You see, all of the participants are convicted criminals. I have a feeling I will enjoy this, but it is not Death Race until I hear about points for running over babies and Euthanasia Day at the hospital. Jason Statham stars in this version, joined by Tyrese Gibson, Ian McShane, Joan Allen, and Natalie Martinez. Below are the trailer and a number of stills.
