“Hollywood is the conversational opener,” EIC's Gallo Dyak pointed out. She and Clemenson, along with a contingent of preeminent health care professionals and members of the entertainment community, recently participated in a Think Tank event to formulate the Mental Healthcare Media Blueprint and, later, present their ideas to select members of Congress and their staff.

“It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Clemenson marvelled. His participation came after he was unable to attend the PRISM ceremony where his work on Boston Legal was honoured, but he wanted to give back to the organization in some way. “I’ve always been a little uncomfortable with the whole celebrity part of my job, but this was great. I was happy to use whatever celebrity I have to give them publicity to draw attention to this.”

While Gallo Dyak clarified that EIC does not advocate for specific legislation, their presentation promoted ideas that might be incorporated into legislation. They encouraged Congress to create resources for people to seek treatment, and offered their services in the communities of attending members of Congress with the goal of working with local health care organizations and local media to bring accurate, attention-getting health messages to the public. "When it comes with a Hollywood component to it where it's very genuine, we know it can go far," Gallo Dyak asserted.

Apart from the Congressional briefing, Clemenson sees a lofty goal for the EIC and the entertainment industry as a whole in addressing mental illness. “Ultimately what we want to do is get people to recognize the disorder, to remove the stigma, and to get them in to get diagnosed. There are so many people with mental disorders that don’t get diagnosed because there’s this shame involved. One thing that’s involved with a television character is it goes a long way to removing shame. ‘That’s what my uncle has, that’s what my brother has.’ Suddenly it’s not this horrible secret no one can talk about.”
