TV Review: Queen Bees - Looking to Change Divas for the Better
Published June 19, 2008
After just finishing my junior year in high school, I think it’s completely accurate for me to claim that I know "those" girls. You know the type: backstabbers, gossipers, rude, self-centered, and just all out mean. The worst thing in high school is knowing that those girls are talking about you while you’re taking your English test or while they're at the big party that you weren’t invited to. Not that you would go anyway. You just sit there and sigh, “Why are they so mean? Why can’t they change?” And finally, maybe, they can.
The-N, a network that prides itself on providing the best entertainment for teens, has picked up a brand-new reality show, Queen Bees, which premieres Friday, July 11th at 9:00 ET/PT. After viewing the first episode, I will tell you it is quite addicting and the best reality show I’ve ever seen on The-N.
The show is hosted by America’s Next Top Model winner Yoanna House. Relationship expert Dr. Michelle (The Tyra Banks Show) serves as psychologist and life coach. Both are there to help seven girls change from self-centered brats to actual people. The girl who transforms the most wins 25,000 dollars.
Seven girls have been nominated by their friends, family members, boyfriends, and even their fiancés to go on the show and change for the better. The girls think they are going on the show to win the title of biggest diva (honestly, where do they find these girls?) and are in for a shock when they find out their loved ones want them to change.
I’ve never met someone more nasty than the contestants in my life, and I’ve met some horrible people. Shavon is the "I’m-not-going-to-sugarcoat-anything-got-that-bitch?" Gisbelle told her boyfriend she was pregnant so he would buy her stuff. Kiana has the worst attitude problem in the world. Brittany’s only words are: "I," "Brody Jenner," and "Paris Hilton" — she gives me a headache simply by being the most annoying person alive. Camille told the camera she can make her boyfriend cry at the “snap of her fingers.” Michelle bought $8,000 worth of clothes on her parents’ credit cards. The mother of the last girl, Stassi, calls her own daughter "conceited," "aggressive," "bossy," and "demanding."
The show has a good message and is quite fascinating. I like the fact that there is finally a show that tries to make the mean girls play nice. I watched the premiere and I’m already hooked on this awesome show. Even if you’re not a big reality TV person, make an exception for this one.
