The U.S. Open concluded Monday afternoon after 19 playoff holes, in which Tiger Woods finally defeated Rocco Mediate at Torrey Pines. All weekend Tiger Woods was hampered with an injury, which seemed to bother him after every swing, but in the end wasn't nearly as bad an injury Mediate had all weekend, which was a hyperextended lack of being Tiger Woods.

Because of the 18-hole playoff on Monday, which was simulcast on the Web, many Internet providers traffic spiked between 15 and 25 percent, some even doubled their incoming traffic. A pie chart released to the public shows the percentage of people who spent at least a few seconds checking the score or watching the playoff, and then the percentage of those who didn't, which they call, "Vincent from accounts receivable."

After a tumultuous first two and a half months of the season, the New York Mets fired embattled manager Willie Randolph early Tuesday morning after a win over the Angels. In the hopes that nobody notices, Mets GM Omar Minaya will replace him with Sandy Duncan.

In the NBA Finals, the Lakers staved off elimination on their home court by beating the Celtics 104-98 in Game 5. After the Lakers built a 19-point lead, Boston battled back to tie the game in the third quarter, then backed off once they realized they were accidentally reading the manuscript for Game 4.

Twins pitcher Scott Baker became the first pitcher in five years to strike out four batters in an inning. More impressive still, none of those batters were Jose Vidro.

ESPN.com removed a line from a recent column by Jemele Hill who compared rooting for the Boston Celtics to saying Hitler was a victim. Hill could not be reached for comment, saying she was hiding in an attic somewhere.

Down 2-nil in a Euro 2008 game against the Czech Republic, Turkey scored 3 goals in the final 15 minutes for the comeback victory. This just in, the Czechs have hired Willie Randolph as team manager.

And finally, an exhibition womens soccer game took place between Austria and Germany. The teams played topless. Who won, you ask? Why, the crowd did.
