Making the Rounds at General Hospital: Things are Heating Up
Published June 06, 2008
There was not much to report about Monday and Tuesday’s episodes, but Wednesday’s brought it all together. Here’s what’s going on in Port Charles thus far this week.
Nikolas and Claudia got closer, as this unlikely couple shared a kiss while the Prince was recovering from being thrown from his horse the night before. I must say that I like seeing this honest side of Claudia. It’s much like how she acts when she is with Johnny, and I think is closer to the woman she wants to be should circumstances in her life change. In the morning, though, Nikolas thought twice about the kiss and let Claudia know that it was a mistake. The mob princess and Cassadine prince shared an honest conversation about his grief over Emily, and I think some of Claudia’s outsider’s point of view made it through Nikolas’ armor.
Lulu walked in on the couple as Claudia was giving Nikolas an appreciative kiss on the cheek and immediately launched an attack against Claudia. This scene was far too reminiscent of Carly’s irrational and explosive rants for my tastes, not to mention totally hypocritical considering Lulu had just that morning had to defend her being found in bed with Johnny at the Quartermaine’s (a fun little scene). For all the times Lulu has been told that Johnny is dangerous and she should have no association with the Zaccharas, she certainly has no right to tell Claudia to stay away from her brother.
Claudia finally left Spoon Island and returned to her family at the Metro Court, their temporary home after the Zacchara compound burned to the ground. She met Johnny in the lobby and the two caught up on what’s been going on. Johnny told her about the shift in power and the fire, but Claudia wouldn’t spill about where she’s been or what she’s been doing.
After Johnny left, Lulu showed up for work and ran into Claudia in the Metro Court lobby. She immediately got in Claudia’s face, calling her names and warning Claudia away from her brother. Just as Claudia started to defend herself, Carly stepped in to tell the mob princess to back off and take on someone her own size. These two are so alike in very scary ways, and I don’t know if that’s really a good thing or Lulu’s character.
Kate and Sonny got into a kind of pissing contest when the now ex-mobster walked in on a contract negotiation Kate was having with Crimson’s distributor. When the man tried to change the terms of Crimson’s contract in a way that would cripple the pub’s release, Sonny stepped in and flexed his reputation to intimidate the distributor into a new offer.
Calm and cool as always, Kate rolled with the interference in front of the distributor, but made sure Sonny knew to stay out of her business in the future. It didn’t help that Jax walked in after the fact and expressed his own displeasure at what had happened. I think the real lesson here was that Sonny is starting to realize that he is not in the position he used to be. To survive outside of the mob, he’s going to have to change the way he does things. Could this be leading to him trying to return?
