The Supernatural Season Three Awards
Published May 28, 2008
I got super bored at work yesterday and found a fun way to kill time. All it took was flipping through the season three pages at supernaturalwiki.com, and an afternoon of amusement was born. I spent hours fondly recollecting moments from this past season, and somehow ended up taking notes. So, below are my awards for season three of Supernatural. Keep in mind these categories are random and don’t follow any type of clear thought process. Work and thought aren’t usually compatible in my case.
The Award Goes To….
Best Appearance of Sam Winchester’s Hair: Tie between “The Magnificent Seven” and “The Kids Are Alright”. I know the gag is to let his hair grow as the season progresses, but it got a little too out of control this time. They shouldn’t have messed with the perfection from these episodes. It was showing a lack of control as soon as “Bad Day At Black Rock”.
Worst Appearance of Sam Winchester’s Hair: “Long Distance Call”. By this episode, it was a flyaway mess. He smartly had it trimmed by “Time is On My Side,” but at that point it was too little too late.
Best Dean Death: This was so hard to choose! Granted, we only had two episodes to choose from, but “Mystery Spot” provided so many delightful ways. In the end though, I chose Dean’s actual death in “No Rest For The Wicked.” I still stand in front of my screen, jaw hanging open, tears watering in my eyes at the shot of Dean’s mangled and bloodied corpse lifeless on the floor. However, second place goes to dying Wile E. Coyote-style after being crushed by a desk. Cartoonish deaths are always memorable!
Best Torture of a Winchester: Oh, there were so many, most coming from Sam for some reason. There’s no scene, no matter how cringing, how gruesome, that can match Sam almost getting an eyeball scooped out by a melon baller in “Time Is On My Side.” Dean’s graphic and bloody mauling by a hellhound comes close, so does being chained up in Hell while hooks were impaled through his shoulder and side, but there’s a difference between gory and disturbing. I still shiver over the thought of Sam Winchester’s hazel orb being removed while he was tied down to a table, awake to witness the whole thing. That’s far worse than having his fingernail clean ripped out by rusty pliers. Kripke was pushing limits this season!
Most Gruesome Villain Death: Notice I said “villain” otherwise Dean would have topped this list (still sobbing!). The obvious answer to me is the long, slow, very bloody decapitation of Gordon Walker in “Fresh Blood.” It wasn’t just the way Gordon died in that one, but also Sam’s horrified expression afterward once he realized what he had done. If a death creates trauma for a brother, it wins with me. It was interesting that as quickly as the next episode, when he was driving the stake through the Pagan God’s heart, any signs of remorse over killing were gone. The same holds true for “Dream A Little Dream of Me.” If season three did one thing, it turned Sam Winchester into a brutal killing machine.

Hi Alice,
I just want to say thank you for your rewiews. Your comments make my day brighter and everytime i am bored at work or surf the net i enter this page. It's on top of favorite pages:)
I'm from Romania and we don't have Supernatural airing but that didn't stop us to see the show. One of the best i ever seen. I saw all season without hiatus because i discover that masterpiece at the second season and now it's difficult to wait for the new season. All summer:(((
I liked a lot the finale and my favorites lines from that episodes are: Bon Jovi does rock...on accasion-Dean's and of course another one of Dean-Take care of my wheels/Remember what i taught you(Sorry my english is not brilliant:)
The funniest one was the line of Dean and his face :I'm Batman.
I also loved Sam's expression and the tone of his voice when he lost his shoe.
This season was so good and there are so many good moments....
Best ending scene, except the finale, i Think it was that of Mystery Spot...we saw what Dean means to Sam and that without his brother Sam would became heartless and even cruel, and it gives us a perpective about his feelings after Dean's real death at the end of this season.
Once again, thank you so much for this.
Greetings from Romania:)
Heather - Yes, great Dean quote but given the fact he has so many, it was hard to narrow just one of his down. He is the quotemaster!
Vichi - I appreciate all your comments so far! It's so great to get messages from people all over the globe, but it's really exciting to see fans from a country like Romania where Supernatural isn't airing. It shows how much power the fandom has on the net. Your English is quite good by the way. Mystery Spot is my favorite episode, and my personal favorite ending as well, but I suppose I was trying to judge from a critical viewpoint. Thanks for your show of support!
Sorry Alice, but I have to agree with Heather. Sam's hair was at it's best in "Long Distance Call". The scene where he spars with the girl over the roof of the car. The "cheap suit" even looked good on him. I thought Sam looked his best in this episode.
What a great read, and I agree with all these. And now I'm prompted to go back and watch some of these gems again! I'll pace myself, of course. It's going to be a looong hiatus.
There is a quote I should have listed. It's funny how much the Christmas episode ended up in many categories, but it was that good. I can't believe I missed this one, because it was the best quote ever, and naturally it came from Dean.
"If you fudging touch me again, I'll fudging kill you." Bwah!!

I LOVED Sam's hair in "Long Distance Call" thank you very much. lol. It was getting back towards his hair in the first season which is fantastic.
I miss Dean being badass as well. Sam being badass is all well and good but Dean... Dean is the original.
I have a quote to add to your best quotes section. The end of "Dream A Little Dream of Me" when Dean starts screaming at himself "My father was on obsessed bastard..." etc. That remains, to me, one of Jensen Ackles' finest moments and one of the best moments of the show. Though nothing could beat THAT scene in Mystery Spot, I'll give you that. *grins*
